I Got A "no" From My Insurance Company

Recommended Posts

Can your surgeon write an appeal letter? Sometimes insurance companies play games by dening procedures at first. Don't give up hope, there's always self pay. i know a lot of people who chose to go to Mexico and have had no complications. These are options. Let us know how your doing. :)

I would call them and ask why. I got denied once and found out that I needed to do a more comprehensive 6 month diet. So I did it and I got approved the second time around.

Dorrie - I have a call into the insurance coordinator at the surgeon's office asking that question. Hopefully I'll hear back from them soon. I'm trying not to give up hope. It's so much money to come up with but I'll just have to try and find a way. I know very well what I face given my family history if I can't have this surgery. I've tried to hard for so long to lose this weight and I'm fighting a battle I just won't win without it.

TRY TRY AGAIN...I know people who have gone back and forth with the company and finally got it! Sometimes it takes a week sometimes a few months but they get it.

If you care to share your requirements for pre-approval, and your personal stats (BMI, comorbs, etc.) we might be able to help you pontificate things you can use should you choose to appeal.

Yes, thank you! I have a BMI of 38, 210/5'2". I am borderline on high blood pressure and diabetes but not on medication for either at this time. I did a sleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea. The insurance requires 40 BMI for automatic approval or 35 BMI plus one co-morbidity. Since I was diagnosed with Apnea, I am wondering if really is move one by them to see if they deny if I will give up.

Do you have 2 co-morbidities or weight related illnesses such as sleep apnea, high blood pressure, or diabetes? Did your doctor send you out for testing for these illnesses? What type of insurance do you have?

I knew I could rely on the fabulous people on this forum to help me feel better than I have for two days and to keep my confidence and determination up. My skinny husband's response was "Well, at least you tried." Please know, he is super supportive of me and this journey but it just goes to show that people who don't have to fight this struggle everyday do not know how this feels and how it felt to get that letter.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
