jewels1227 20 Posted June 18, 2012 Hello Gang, Just to bring you up to par. I was sleeved on 5/30. I had a couple of complications such as : vomiting, tubes and lights being placed down my throat etc. I am now doing better with the vomiting. I have a couple of questions. I should be able to eat mushy foods, however I am not able to do so. I tried to eat some mash potatoes, and when they went down, It felt like my stomach was grinding them and it was sorta painful. I tried to eat some soft noodles, they went down ok but a little later they all came back up. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this something that I should be very concerned about? When will I get back to being normal? After what I went thru at the hospital and having to stay 8 days instead of 2, I am really nervous. I try to drink my Protein drinks and Water, but I am never able to finish the entire bottle. I hate the fact that I feel every thing that I drink go down in my stomach. On another note, I have lost 20 pounds. I know this is a lot and quickly considering the fact that I am not able to eat foods. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all of the prayers that went forth.
Ms skinniness 3,003 Posted June 18, 2012 Your stomach might be healing a little slower and that's ok. Try eating the mushies with less consistency and gradualy make it less consistency. Make sure your getting in all you Water because if you get dehydrated, your stomach may get a little swollen . Talk with your surgeon about it too. It will get better but it does take time to heal. beautifulnewme2012 164 Posted June 18, 2012 I would say because of the complications you might need to take it very very easy on your sleeve. Mashed potatoes are so thick and bulky and Pasta swells in your new stomach. What you are experiencing is normal. Sounds like your sleeve is healing it just needs some extra TLC. Protein Shakes are hard to digest. I drink my 6 ounces , 2 ounces at a time throughout the day. I hope this helps!
karenb4729 309 Posted June 18, 2012 I would say to take it a bit easier first. My instructions as I go through each phase say that if there is anytime when I'm not tolerating a food to just back up. Are you able to eat yogurt? Its a good Protein source and one that's easy on the sleeve.
llromano 0 Posted June 18, 2012 I also had surgery May 30. I've found that Protein Shakes are still VERY hard on my stomach, My dr said to continue to try a little at a time and it will get better. I've lived on Greek yogurt. This is not something I cared for in the past but I found a brand I really do like... Yoplait. I eat a couple of bites and stick it back in the fridge. A bit later, I get a couple more bites. I'm really feeling pretty good at this point. Dr also suggested Gatorade because plain Water is hard on your stomach... Just a thought. Hope it helps. I will be very happy when I am completely healed. I also have been drinking gatorade, this adds a little flavor to my life! Thanks again everyone, you all are the best! The instant mashed ones are better for you right now because you can actually make those pretty runny and stomach them better.

crod19380 0 Posted June 18, 2012 I am sorry to hear what you are having a rough start. I know it will get better. I also had my surgery on 5/30 and am having a hard time movng into the soft food phases. I just spoke to my surgeons office and they assure me this is not abnormal. Some advice they gave me was to try something small everyday, but keep the chicken and fish towards the end when you can already digest soft and moist foods. I found I can eat an over easy egg but not scrambled. bread is difficult but I can eat crackers. Once you find foods like this you add a little variety to your meals. I usually eat / drink a yougurt smoothy in the morning. It takes about an hour to finsh it but it keeps me full. Also remember to take your Vitamins, it gives you more energy. Good Luck with your recovery! Yogurt Smoothy 1 6oz serving of Chobani nonfat yogurt (I usually use Honey or Plain) 1/2 cup frozen fruit (Dole has a great medley of Peach, Mango Strawberries and Pinapple) 1/4 cup non-fat milk Blend it together, if it is too think add a little cold Water and blend again. WillowsKnot 71 Posted June 19, 2012 sugar free popsicles, cream Soup, cottage cheese all work for me when my sleeve is having a hard day. Oh also Mexican fresh cheese. Hang in there.
jewels1227 20 Posted June 20, 2012 Thanks everyone, especially the recipes. I went back to the doctor yesturday and as stated above he said this was not abnormal. chitowngirl 886 Posted June 20, 2012 I agree with the above statements. Because you had complications your stomach may need a little extra time to heal. Mashed potatoes can be kinda rough going down, I would try yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding, and Jello. Gradually work your way upto more dense food as time goes on. Best of luck to you. butterbean 30 Posted June 20, 2012 We are sleeve sisters! One thing that helps me is eating small ice chips. I think it helps me not go so fast. I make slushie/milkshakes with my Protein Drinks in the blender and eat them with a baby spoon. It takes foooorevvvaaaaah, but it all stays down and makes minimal noise. I hope things get better for you every day.
