cudlyqt 21 Posted June 18, 2012 Having surgery on wed, how bad is the nausea? How long after surgery does it last? Is the nausea due to the smaller stomach or surgery itself?
JustSleeveMe23 15 Posted June 18, 2012 I had nausea the day of surgery and the next day. By the 2nd day, it was much better. Now, 11 days post-op I get nauseated occasionally but the medicine really cuts it out when it hits. I think mine was mostly from anesthesia at first.
vanb0052 40 Posted June 18, 2012 Don't know what causes the nausea...but it was my number one issue in the hospital. None of the IV meds would touch it, but once I was on an oral pill it magically went away. I'm now 7 days post op, and am down to one pill a day, which I almost didn't take this morning. When I was in the hospital, all the drs and nurses said that nausea was very common with the sleeve.
MinaT 669 Posted June 18, 2012 There's a plethora of antinausea pills. I was not nauseous at all until I had the upper GI. The gastrique or whatever the crap is called was horrible and I got hives from it, which I guess is unusual. I was on 3 iv meds and I got a shot in my muscle in my arm of one plus I had the patch on I received before surgery. It went away the next day and the peppermint tea did ease my queezy belly. One thing to know about anti-nausea medication is that it can cause Constipation and dryness of the mouth.
barrbdoll 287 Posted June 18, 2012 I wasn't nauseous at all.... no gas either.... Your nurse should administer Zofran or another anti-nausea med in your IV before surgery.
