How Bad Is This?

Recommended Posts

I have been naueous for about a week, over the weekend I was taking an antibiotic and on Thursday my doctor started titrating me off insulin and put me back on Metformin which I have taken before.

This morning I started vomiting and some foamy stuff came up how bad is this for my sleeve? And what could have caused it? I have been having a hard time with regular foods like meat no matter how much I chew or how little I eat which trust me is'nt much, Protein Powder shakes not going down real well either. Help!

It sounds like you had an episode of frothing. Your stomach produces a thick mucous that can sometimes come up; it's more frequent in the first 3 months following surgery and is normal. You can try drinking some warm liquid (Water with lemon works well) to help break it up. Nausea is also very common for VSG patients, and can be caused by a lot of things. You mention that you're having some trouble with meat and the Protein shakes - you'll certainly want to mention this to your nutritionist, who may recommend that you back up your diet progression to foods that are easier to eat.

Go to foods for us, as VSG patients - scrambled eggs, Peanut Butter, yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans.

All of the above should be easy for you to eat. If you're having trouble, definately contact your doctor. Good luck!

Thank you cougar and welittle1, I felt fine up to a week ago. meats are "sticking" no matter how much I chew them to death. Wasn't expecting this to happen. I go back next month for a visit with the surgeon. The med change is new but I dont remember this happening when I went on Metforim years ago. Hope it stops soon.

Cougar does this frothy stuff stop after while or do I get to look forward to this forever. No one told me about this possibility. I really hate yaking always try to hold it back if I can.

DebraLea, it generally goes away within 6 months of surgery. Your smaller stomach makes less acid to break down food. Your stomach produces this mucous like substance to help digest food and move it through your intestines. It can be annoying and make you sick to your stomach to the point you don't want to eat. Warm fluids such as herbal tea or warm lemon Water help to break down this mucous and decrease frothing. If your symptoms persist, let your doctor know. Hope that helps and good luck!
