Weight Gain Since Surgery (1Wk Post-Op)

Recommended Posts

Been on liquids only for 2 weeks... No scale movement... Went the wrong way since surgery! I'm afraid this won't work for me. Starving and not losing sucks :(

The scale normally goes up for anywhere from a few days to almost 2 weeks after surgery from what I've seen because of the extra fluids and swelling from surgery. Hang in there. Just keep following your plan & try to get all your fluids & Protein in and the scale will move!! Also, do your measurements! I've had some times where the scale is the same for 4 days or so, but when I do measurements each week I've lost inches! Please don't stress about it because stressing makes us hold on to weight too. Just relax and focus on recovering!!

Trust me, it'll work. I agree with MyGastricSleeveLife - you've got a lot of swelling and extra fluids post-op for the first couple of weeks, and that can cause the scale to go in the wrong direction at first; but it's only temporary. Very soon, you'll start losing, and the pounds will just fall off. Hang in there and rest, drink your fluids, and keep your spirits up. :)

I think it's also important to note that our bodies are in shock and wondering WTF just happened, so it tries to hang onto everything it can. It'll let go soon enough and weight will just melt. I'm now 5 days post-op and doing my best to avoid even going near a scale until my first check up; it seems to help me to stay away from it for now.

Hang in there!! The exact same thing happened to me. Stay off the scale, get your Protein in first and you will see a difference. I am 4 weeks out and just saw a 6 pound drop in one week so it will work. Good luck

Well it's good to know that this is all normal. I'm going to weigh myself tomorrow for the first time in 3 or 4 days. Or maybe I should wait a while longer. Thanks everyone!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
