ThunderThighs 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I've had this odd craving since being banded, I crave chewing ice. Before, when people chewed ice around me, it would give me the chills. Now, I crave chewing ice myself! It is just so weird to me. Anyone else out there with strange cravings?
gonnabethin 10 Posted August 28, 2006 Some people chew ice just to chew it- however it is also considered a form of pica. A craving of non-nutritional food sources. Maybe your just more thirsty and you miss the chewing. If all of your lab work (hgb, thyroid panel, Mg, and electrolyte panel) was normal I wouldnt worry about it. If you start salting your ice then I would worry.
ThunderThighs 0 Posted August 28, 2006 all my tests are normal last time they were checked. I think I just like to chew ice!!
3loves 0 Posted August 28, 2006 When were you banded? I had the same craving shortly after my surgery. I couldn't get enough ice. My DH crushed it for me several times in the snow cone maker.

joliesmom 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I crave small amounts of pureed thinned foods.
Kat817 19 Posted August 28, 2006 I was told by the nurse practitioner that craving/crunching ice was a sign of Iron deficiency. I was anemic! I eventually had a hysterectomy, and no more craving ice. Otherwise, no cravings, although there are times, I get so thirsty, so suddenly, I feel like I will literally die without a drink of cold Water right then. I think I just dehydrate myself, because not drinking before and after eating, is making it hard for me to fit in time to have enough fluids. Kat
3loves 0 Posted August 28, 2006 I was banded September 29, 2005 Well, there goes my after surgery theory. Maybe I craved ice from losing blood during surgery?? Right now I need a root canal and the thought of chewing ice is like torture. :censored: Congratulations on being banded almost a year!! Your anniversary is coming up soon. Don't see a stats page, but I hope you've done well. I'm a rookie at this banding stuff so it's good to hear from some long timers.
Jachut 487 Posted August 28, 2006 I've lost my sweet tooth, sweet and rich things like chocolate, I like them but they make me feel sick very quickly now, a few bites is all I want of them. I never liked chips much but look out if you put a bowl of chips near me these days - salty crunchy things are way more tempting to me now.

lovecats85 2 Posted August 28, 2006 I havent craved anything, but I always notice how there were foods I thought I liked because I was just wolfing them down, but now that I chew and really taste my food, I find my tastes aren't what they were before! Serendipity4124 1 Posted August 28, 2006 I'm only 6 days out and I'm not craving ice, but maybe that's because I'm on a Flinstones Vitamin w/ Iron, dunno. However, I am craving to be able to eat meat again! What's weird about that is that I've never been a big meat eater, I was actually a vegitarian for 2 years! I dont know why I'm craving it but I know I can't wait to have a burger lol
DAA 0 Posted August 28, 2006 my craving is hot pepper stuff. I love making scrambled eggs with pepper jack cheese. I never liked anything hot before my surgery so i really cant explain it.
Miper70 0 Posted August 28, 2006 No more hot stuff for me. Now that I have restriction it stays there way too long to be too hot. Sad because I love hot food.< /p>
