Ok To Drink Liquid Along With A Protein Shake?

Recommended Posts

I get he half hour rule about no drinking within a half hour of eating. Does this also count for priotein drinks? Very confused. Anyone's input greatly appreciated!!

I usually try to wait 30 minutes but have on occasion with no ill effect, drank Water after drinking a Protein Shake. ;)

You should also wait 1/2 hour before Water after Protein Shakes. the reason being that if you drink water right away or with it, your body does not absorb the nutrients and the Protein, same reason you should wait 30 minutes after eating anything to drink again.

I guess it depends on how you do your Protein drinks. I actually dilute my Protein Drinks in a full 28-ounce Water bottle to make it last longer and get more fluids in. I usually have Breakfast & then do a Protein Drink that way between Breakfast & lunch & then do a water bottle filled with crystal light between lunch & dinner. I sometimes do 2 Protein Drinks a day like that. I believe that since I'm drinking it diluted and slowly I'm fine with absorption.

However, if you tried to drink your Protein Drink quickly, then I'd agree with the others that said to wait before adding Water.< /p>

My nutritionist said the rule doesn't apply to liquids so I don't and have never waited. My Protein levels are great in my blood work.

I'm worried about my Protein levels but I'm only 2 weeks out. The highest I have had in two weeks was 37 ounces and yesterday was 14 and my average is only 22. I'm trying too. I may have to just completely spend an entire day drinking an entire Isopure bottle. I am praying my body decides to accept the Protein Shakes again, because right now they are nauseating me.

Same here. My NUT counts Protein drinks as a liquid. I don't dilute mine for more liquids, but I do sip Water at the same time because most protein drinks dry my mouth out something awful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
