Still Hungry A Month Later

Recommended Posts

Was sleeved on 05/16. I am still hungry quite a bit after my meals. This has been the case since I came out of surgery. This is very discouraging since I was told by my Dr that my hunger would subside within a week or so. Also I have only lost 22 lbs in one month. The first two weeks it was 16 lbs. then only 6 lbs the next two weeks. I have exercised every day and have had zero carbs, sweets, and so on. Just very discouraged :-(

Well my Doc told me that 3rd and 4th week are lost weeks. all I can say is make a journal of what you are eating, there is something there that maybe high calorie or high in sodium. I was eating cream of chick Soup and it brought my weight loss to a halt. As far as hunger not sure but i found my brain was identifying with the wrong feelings my tummy was having like gas trapped needing to burp. So just keep going you will lose the weight. Good Luck!

You are not necessarily doing anything wrong. However, journaling what you eat is highly recommended while you reprogram your brain. If you stop and think about it, 22 lbs in a month is amazing! Don't get on yourself, its a learning process and we all lose differently.

22 pounds in a month is extremely amazing, considering that 2 of the weeks your stomach and insides were extremely bruised, swollen and gassy. Are you sure the "hunger" is not thirst?

edited to say, I have never been under the impression that the sleeve causes a person not to be hungry. It's a tool, part of the hormone that regulates the hunger message is gone, but not completely.

I may very well be having hunger pains sometimes, but to me they come out as gassy cramps. When that happens I walk.

Thanks for the compliment on the 22lb weight loss. Not too sure it's thirst. Good thing is that even though I am frequently hungry it takes a very small amount to make me full. Thank goodness!!

Drinking more when I feel I am hungry is a very good idea. I will be trying to drink more tomorrow! Great idea ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
