sssehol 2 Posted June 17, 2012 Hi everyone. I'm in the final approval stages for surgery, and I ended up in the Er today with a small blood clot in calf. How long might this delay surgery? I am so scared of the blood clot and now surgery. It also reminds me of why I want to have surgery.
Lissa 2,631 Posted June 17, 2012 I had to wait 3 months after my clot to have surgery. You'll probably take warfarin/coumadin for that entire 3 months and have to give yourself lovenox injections pre-op and post-op. Ask your surgeon about whether you'll need an IVC filter placed before the sleeve surgery to reduce the risk of clots going into your heart and lungs. I'm so sorry you have a clot, but there are medical procedures to protect you from this. If you have questions, feel free to PM me. Hopefully, your clot won't send any little buddies out to visit your lungs like mine did! Good luck!! Keep us posted please!
kczar 166 Posted June 17, 2012 I don't have any experience with this but I would recommend calling your surgeon in the morning to let him/her know. Some surgeons install filters in high risk patients to prevent clots. I will be important that they know about the clot. Good luck. I hope you're feeling better and this doesn't delay your surgery. Never mind what I said. Lisa answered beautifully, as always!
