Edmonton Alberta- Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I've been considering the sleeve for months now, doing a lot of research of the pros and cons. Can anyone msg or reply to a question I have about the extra skin removal. Is anything covered by Alberta Health Care, or other ways? This is my main concern, which I know is vain, but it's scary

If you go out of country to have it done I don't know if ahc will cover any if the surgery for skin removal. I know someone who had it done in alberta and ahc will cover that part as well as long as she maintains her weight for 1 year. If you have the sleeve done out if country, as long as you go to a actual hospital to have it done not a clinic... Ahc will give you back Some money you have to have receipts of hospital fees etc. not sure this helps but it's a little info. I know the wait times in Canada are so long it's frustrating, and unless you have a list of health issues and a very high bmi they won't look at you, that's why I went to Mexico to have it done. Good luck in you journey.

I have a friend who's been waiting for skin removal here in Alberta for 2 years. :(

If you live not too far from Medicine Hat getting a referral to their bariatric center is an option. The surgery is covered because it's a referral and being new their wait list is shorter than most by a lot. It took six months for the call, but once in the door average wait seems to be about 6 months if you follow the program.

Wish I could help with the plastics... I know there is now one in the Crowsnest Pass but I have no idea of his credentials.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
