Where Is Everyone?!?!?!

Hey all!! I feel like we've slacked off :) I miss you all!

So, here's my update... I'm 5 days post-op and feeling AWESOME. I told my uncle that I felt like a million bucks, and wasn't exaggerating at all. Now if you asked me if I would feel like a million bucks by 5 days while I was in the hospital...I'd say HELL NO. Had horrible nausea in the hospital that took a mix of three different meds at different times to even get remotely under control so I could drink 4 oz in 8 hours. But, I was motivated to work hard on my 2nd full day to get enough liquid down to go home.

Just walking in my front door was awesome. I felt so much relief. The only set back I've had is horrid Constipation. My 2nd night home, I ended up in Urgent Care as I had wore out all my remaining stomach muscles trying to pass what had built up in my bowels. It's still a bit of a struggle, but my UC Doc and my Surgeon worked together to prescribe some colon clean out juice that I'm taking until my 1 week follow-up. Hopefully I'll get some more direction on Tuesday.

As far as meds...I'm down to one anti-nausea pill and prilosec in the morning. Haven't had any pain medication in over 24 hours, even liquid tylenol. I've been taking my three, ten minute walks religiously. Today, I stepped it up and my third walk ended up being a 20 minute mile. I jammed out to my ipod and just went to town!

I just hope all of you are having as good of an experience as I am. Let's open this discussion back up!!!!!

I'm excited to have some new friends to talk to who can relate to all of the changes and challenges.

I'm Stacy. I had my surgery on May 8th. Just started back to work this week. I was exhausted after the first day, but it feels good to get back to a "normal" routine. I'm down 31 pounds and I feel great!

Hi - I had surgery this past Monday, June 25th, in Mexico with Dr. Aceves. I'm home in the Twin Cities, and feeling GREAT. It was a fantastic experience. I was able to go back to work yesterday (4 days post op) but of course I have an easy desk job, so not much different than sitting at home. :)

Hi all,

I'm in Woodbury, getting ready for my surgery at Abbott on 2/19. Did anyone else have their surgery there? I'm excited that so many of you have had good experiences immediately post-op. I was worried that two weeks off from work wouldn't be enough. I'm a supervisor in a hospital so I sit at a computer, but I also walk around a lot too.

Did any of you struggle with whether or not to tell your co-workers you were having this surgery? I only told a few close friends at work, but I know in a couple months it will be obvious, (kinda like being pregnant, everyone finds out eventually). I'm not sure how comfortable I am with divulging all of this in a professional setting.

I've been pretty open about it. The truth comes out eventually. But I understand the thought of keeping quiet as well - it is a private thing. I've had nothing but support, so I'd encourage being open about it.

I was back at work 4 days post-op. Walking is good for you... i will say that I felt tired for a few weeks, but otherwise was fine. Everyone is different though.

We have a Twin Cities B-Pal Sleevers group that meets once a month. We shuffle between St Louis Park, Fridley and now Roseville. We are a pretty small group and very supportive of each other's successes!

This Saturday, February 21st - we are meeting at Good Earth restaurant in Roseville at 10am. Everyone is welcome to join us.

I am canceling tomorrow's (3/22) Sleevers get together at 1pm at Jason's Deli in Edina.

The weatherman is predicting 3-5 inches if snow tomorrow. I plan to stay home and clean out closets. I am finally able to donate my 20W clothing to Clothes Mentor. Yeah!

I will reschedule our get together for the Sunday after Easter.

Happy shoveling!!

Lori

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
