LULU TATT 18 Posted June 16, 2012 DO YOU THINK IT'S REALLY BAD TO TRY Soups 10 DAYS OUT POST OP???
MinaT 669 Posted June 16, 2012 What kind of Soups? I am allowed creamed soups with no chunks. Unfortunately I could only get in about 4 teaspoons. I was told for sure NO potato Soup and NO Tomato Soup. Tomato soup is too acidic.
LULU TATT 18 Posted June 16, 2012 ANY KIND OF Soup PRETTY MUCH...HOW FAR POST OP ARE YOU??? MY DOC SD HAD TO DO ANOTHER WEEK OF CLEARS, THEN 2 WKS OF FULL liquids, THEN 2 WKS OF MUSHIES...
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted June 16, 2012 Honestly, I'd get approval from your doctor first. I had to do 2 weeks of clears, but was getting really sick of them & had my first post-op visit at 9 days out. My surgeon said I could start using regular Protein Drinks instead of just clears if I wanted to, but not to start anything else on the full liquid list until 14 days out. He said the risk of a leak is the highest in the first 2 weeks & if there were to be a leak they wouldn't want the heavier stuff to leak out. Please get approval before moving on though! LULU TATT 18 Posted June 16, 2012 OK...THANKS!!! JUST WONDERING...CLEARS ARE ABSOLUTELY DRIVING ME CRAZY..AND A LOTTA PPL SAY THEY HAVE FULL LIQUIDS A FEW DAYS OUT...
Nate 292 Posted June 16, 2012 My Doc had me on full liquids 3 days after surgery, which included strained cream of mushroom and chicken Soups, and he said any normal cream of "blank" soups that are strained would be acceptable once I got home. So You should be OK, but I would call your Doc's office and ask them just to be safe. .

DuranFan1969 119 Posted June 16, 2012 My doctor has me on 98% fat free cream Soups as long as I strain them. I'm on them for the first week after surgery - have to make them with Water though, not milk.
MKambalimath 92 Posted June 16, 2012 Your surgeon sounds a little strict but maybe hes had a lot of success with his patients taking longer? Its amazing how much they differ. My sister had the same surgery through the Army in Washington state and didnt even have to do a pre-op diet! I was supposed to do a 2 week one but didnt do very well on it Its probably better just to go by his rules, I'm sure he has good reason. That being said, I felt so much better about my decision to have the surgery after I was on mushies Good luck!
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted June 17, 2012 yes, it is amazing the differences that surgeons have in progression of food. They all follow what they feel is right. Although I know some people progress faster, I picked my surgeon so I want to follow what he says & believe others should do the same. Progressing without doctor's approval could lead to issues even when others have progressed faster with other doctors. They all do what they feel is best and what they have the most experience with doing.
