Hi I am super new to this forum but have asked a few questions over on obesityhelp.com

I am trying to decide on a doctor and i keep thinking i have it and then i find another great one.

I have narrowed it down to 3. Dr Garcia, Dr Kelly or Dr Alvarez.

Dr Alvarez is the most expensive. 3200$ more expensive. That would pay for my husbands lasik surgery.

I have no insurance. I lost it half way through the process in the united states so i have been to support groups, informational meetings, surgeon consult and a few other things lol.

All three of these doctors seem to be pretty amazing. They seem to really care about their patients. One thing that really made me put alvarez at the top was this statement from susan " In the unlikely event of a complication, we keep you at the hospital and care for you or if you are home, we wish you to come back to us for such care at no charge. Why would we charge you for something he caused???"

How amazing is that?? Talk about a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders.

My question is, after lots of rambling, do the other 2 doctors offer the same? Will they be there when i struggle? If i have a complication can i jump on a plane and know that in a few hours ill be safe and they will take care of me.

Thanks so much

Brandie

I have a surgery date scheduled with Dr. Alvarez, if my insurer does not pay or if i cant get a surgery date this summer. I have been more impressed with him and his staff than I have been with my surgeon here. He took the time to do a consult with me via FaceTime and his office gave me the names of some of his patients in my area. Each of them emailed me and one even called. They all raved about him! I'm sure that all the surgeons are very good, but I am pleased with my choice!

I've heard good things about all of them. Dr. Alvarez seems to be pretty good, as surgeons go. I have no bias that he is in Mexico, and I believe the quality of care is quite good there from what I have heard. Go with your instinct, though - nine times out of ten, it's right. If it feels right, do it. If there's a hint of doubt, clarify or find another doctor. This isn't a game; it's the rest of your life. You want this to be done right the first time. Good luck!

I used Dr. Garcia and I did not ask about a warranty. I am sure if you asked you would get a straight answer. All the doctors on your list are great doctors and you will be in good hands with any of them you choose. Good luck.

I had mine with Dr Ponce, I asked him that before my surgery. He said if something happened while I was there he would take care of it. If I went home and had to come back I might need to pay for my ticket and maybe some hospital fees but otherwise nothing. I am over a month post op and thank God nothing happened! I am doing wonderfully. I have heard great things about Dr Alvarez but I also wanted to save the extra money and honestly Dr. Ponce is super experienced. Even if I had to go back it would had cost me less than the extra 3000. Dr Ponce is only 5500.

Good luck on your search!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
