Surgery is in 11 days and up until yesterday I was nothing but excited. I had a friend some what freak me out (not knowing) about the pain. I've heard the pain is similar to a csection, although I have never had children I have witnessed many friends recover from csections and never heard complaints. Please feel free to share your story to help ease my mind. Pain I can handle but I would much rather mentally prepare myself as best as possible!

Honestly the pain wasn't that bad. Mostly just kind of a dull ache with the occasional twinge. I caused myself more pain reaching for things or twisting I don't sit still well. You will be fine and really happy to see and feel the weight come off. I'm down 21 lbs in just 9 days. It makes it worth it

I had minimal pain from the point I got out of surgery until now (2 days post op). It's going to be important to ask for your pain meds every 4 hours - don't let yourself get into pain, try to stay ahead of it. The best I can describe the pain is around where my new gogo gadget tummy is - it feels like a cramp/stitch in my side more than anything. I'm sure that pain levels vary based upon the patient, how well you follow the meal plan up to surgery, and the skill of the surgeon.

My pain was the equivilant of doing 1000 sit ups, not really pain but really soar. I've never had a c section, but I did deliver an 8.11 ounce baby, and let me tell you that labor was 10 times worse.

That's a good way to put it. Not pain just sore

I hurt alot but I was also given the wrong meds for pain at first, which knocked me out solid, but only for an hour or so, and I would spend hours in groggy pain trying to walk, etc.

The grogginess made the pain worse...balance was off so I know I swayed on my feet a bit which was not good for the soreness, and prevented me from doing any type of self-regulating for the pain.

I was finally put on liquid hydrocodone, and immediately improved. I sipped my dose, which allowed me to stop even before full dose. I dulled the pain and still was able to talk...sort of!

Pain is so individual. Some people have had little to no pain. Others, like me, had quite a bit of pain. That being said, I had a nurse "get on me" because I wasn't staying on top of my pain. She told me this wasn't the time to be Super Woman. She really was being nice and caring. I was using my pain pump, but I was also allowed a bolts of pain meds every two hours and I wasn't asking for it. At least not until the nurse got on me. Once I started asking for and getting it, my pain was under control and that made all the difference in the world. When I went home. I was given liquid Lortab. The dosage though was quite a bit less meds than what I was getting in the hospital and again, I was in quite a bit of pain. I called my doctor's office and told the, this. I told them of the name and stronger dosage of the pain med I'd gotten after my sinus surgery 8 weeks earlier amd how good it worked. Without further question, they called it in for me and it got my pain under control.

My experience may or may not be yours. The advice I do offer should you have pain issues is to stay on top of it. It is better to do that than to suffer with it and then have to wait to get it back under control. It is much easier (and less painful) to stay on top of it then it is to get it back under control after you let it get out of hand.

Best of luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
