Setting My Goal Weight....

Recommended Posts

Hi guys. I am at the point where I want to set my goal weight. I am not sure what is realistic? My current weight after losing a few pounds from dieting is 211 (my surgeon told me not to go any lower before surgery) I am 5'4", medium bone structure, medium muscle tone. What is a realistic weight to get to?

My surgeon told me that the weight chart said I should weigh 105 (bwahahahaha) at 5 ft 1. My current weight is 230. He said that most people sleeved lose about 60-80% of their excess weight. So my total excess weight is 125lbs, 60% of that is 75lbs or realistic goal weight of 155. I would have no problem with that. :) If you absolutely stick to the "rules" you can lose more..

Did they measure you for lean body mass? Getting that can help you and your doc figure out the best weight for you because it's based on your body composition.

I am between 5'5" and 5'6" and my goal weight is 140, which is still in the high BMI range for me. I would like to be around 25% body fat. Last time I got my body fat checked in a hydrostatic weighing system I was around 58% body fat.

I am more concerned about body fat/size than weight.

Ideally, a 6 or 8 would be amazing for me.

If you have a way to figure out your body fat composition, that would be most helpful for your body type. For me, I'm 5'3" and I chose 120# based on my PCP (have not been back to my surgeon since a few days after surgery). I want to be in the middle of the BMI range and that does that. It also gives me a little wiggle room so that if my weight fluxuates a little, I have time to correct it before it gets out of hand figuring if I get up to 130#, I know its time to get things in check. Most people think I look thin now, but I know there are still areas in my mid section that have some excess that will go when I get to my final weight.

If I were you, I would use the BMI scale as a general guide, but you can always adjust it as you get closer. I would try to pick a goal weight though that gives you a little flexibility for weight fluxuation. Just my opinion though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
