What was your post-op regimen? Mines 3wks liquid, 3 wks mushies

Recommended Posts

Ok gang, I'm dying. It's been two weeks on liquids and it's killing me. My doctor's regimen is 3 weeks liquids follwed by 3 weeks mushies and then your first fill. Essentially you never eat solids until you've had a fill. I was ok for about 12 days and now it's torture.

What was your post-op regimen? Was it 6 weeks of no chewing? Just want to get a sense of what other doctors advised. Having that info will be helpful when I call tomorrow and ask the doctor's office about starting mushies sooner.

Thanks!

Britt (craving teriyaki chicken, and, for some odd reason, pistachios)

It's only been 4-5 days and I am dying, I am craving a hamburger patty with tons of ketchup and Tomato :D and I don't even eat red meat!

I was on liquids only for 10 days. I went for a post-op visit on day ten and was moved to mushies. He said after a week of mushies, I could test the waters on a regular diet and if everything went down ok, I was good to go. I had absolutely no problems with that.

Roiansmom, lol, the first thing I had to eat coming off of liquids was scrambled eggs too. My hubby made them and you would have thought I was eating the finest steak at the finest restaurant in the world. It was pure heaven. :biggrin1:

I'm four weeks into liquids and two more to go before mushies. I never thought I'd fantasize about a scrambled egg but there you have it. I'm pretty wide open with the band and am having a difficult time with hunger.

I'll take Jack's words to heart.

Courage, Camille (cough, cough).:phanvan

2 days Clear Liquids, 2 weeks full liquids including cream (made with skim milk) Soups, yogurt, Jello, pudding, slimfast, 1-2 weeks mushies including eggs, cottage cheese or ricotta or tuna salad. The semi-solids and solids. Its the beginning of the 4th week and I got the ok to do some semi-solids now and it is fine. I am super duper careful and chewing like crazy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
