Have To Loose 15 Pounds...frustrated

Recommended Posts

I'm done with all neccessary appointments that was required by my insurance but my surgeon wants me to loose 15 pounds before she even submits it to my insurance. My last weigh in I was 277 on this past monday and today I weighed in at 268. I'm just ready to get this over with because it's getting frustrating and my blood pressure is high often...need some encouragement!!!!

Hi! I know that has to be frustrating. Your way ahead of me though. I havent even met with the surgeon yet to find out what i need to do period. My first appt with her was resheduled. I think its great that you lost any amount of weight on your own so keep it up. You'll shed 15 lbs before you know it. Best wishes to you :)

Have you tried low carb??? I committed to losing 15lbs before my surgery and I lost 17lbs following Atkins Phase 1. Took me about 5 weeks.

Good Luck!

I had to lose 27 lbs before they would approve my surgery per insurance. I lost it doing low carb Atkins diet. It was very very hard and it came off pretty slow. But as soon as I ate any carbs it started packing the weight back on. Even if it was healthy carbs! I do not understand this concept, if we could lose the weight on our own we would not be having wls! duh! And if it is to see that we are serious about the weightloss and restricting ourselves, I can understand that a little more but really isnt looking into a very serious surgery and paying out a ton in deductibles and co-pays serious enough for them! I am very serious when it comes to my money. If I am gonna pay out money for something I am serious about it. I wish you luck!!! It is very hard, but if you want this bad enough you can totally do it! Keep us posted.

I've changed my calorie intake and diet and I work hard. I've lost within three days and all I did was starting eating healthy in small portions.

I agree with the others about low carb. When I first met with my Dr he said one of his requirements was that I lose 5% of my body weight before surgery. I nearly cried because I had been trying to lose weight since the beginning of the year and had only lost 10 lbs following a 1200 calorie a day diet. But, the other thing my Dr requires is a pre-op diet of 30 total carbs or less per day so I figured that I would start that early. Low and behold the weight just started melting off and in fact I orginally went into his office weighing 258 and the day of surgery I was 229, almost 30lbs lost. It was easier to stay on the diet knowing what the goal was in the end but it also made me realize why I needed the surgery.... without the incentive of the surgery I would not have stayed on the diet.

You will get there - I just know it!!

I thought about starting the liquid diet early but I'm on a 1200 calorie diet, I'm Hoping this does the job and If not I'll just try it. Thanks for your story and words of kindness

I feel you. I was supposed to lose 20% or 25 pounds. I tried low Cal. But I'm going to try Atkins next. The weight melts off when I have done it. But I LOVE bread. Oh well better do it now. I don't know how I would handle a liquid diet. Good luck

I had to do a preop diet that was a shake for 2 meals, 3 high Protein Snacks and 1 meal that included 5 oz. of lean protein and 2 cups of non-starch veggies. I lost 14 pounds in 2 weeks. You might try it. It's good practice anyway for the liquid diet you will have to follow postop. Good luck to you!

I'm so not looking forward to the three week liquid diet but I perhaps it can be a guide to help and prepare me for what's about to take place, I'm in good spirits thanks to the responses I've gotten...thanks

I didn't have to do a liquid diet until postop. I'm on day 9 of a 21 day liquid diet and it is not fun at all. What you have to do is remind yourself that this is just temporary and it doesn't last for forever. And, look at the bright side of it. You sure drop the pounds a whole quicker!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
