Wanting To Eat Forbidden Food Before Surgery!

Recommended Posts

i recommend having your last meal 2 weeks from surgery. also you should go ahead and clear your house of all bad foods. once you have the sleeve and are put on a liquid diet for 2 weeks you will thank me. head hunger and craving gets pretty strong and if you have the bad food in your house ultimately, it will win. Also by last meal i don't mean go crazy and go on a binge .

I, also, am scheduled for surgery on July 18th, and am doing the same thing. I look at the pre-op diet (which my dr gave) to kind of get on track for surgery before the restrictive two week pre-op surgery starts and I do great in the morning! But, by evening...I'm craving things like crazy, thinking it will be my last time to have something and I want it, even though it's something I didn't necessarily eat a lot of before. I'm glad that there is a term for it...food funeral.....I like that...but like all good things that end, they also have to be put to rest at least for a little while! I feel better now, knowing that I will eventually be able to eat some of faves again, but less of it, I can deal with that...thank you for sharing the information and posts!

Is it just me' date=' or do you too have the urge to eat EVERTYTHING you know you won't be able to eat/enjoy anymore after the surgery? My surgery is scheduled for July 18th and I was told by my doctor to lose 5-10 lbs by my pre-op date, but I've been finding myself indulging in foods that I won't be eating anymore to "get my fill". Please tell me I'm not alone with this![/quote']

You are def not alone I think we all go thru this pre op but, u will get thru this I'm still trying to figure out how to get this nasty Protein drink down & btw, we share the same surgery date good luck!

My surgery is Monday morning...I've been doing the diet packages they gave me since the 11th. Today I lost it...I was hungry, mad and depressed. So my husband and I wen to a buffet where I had a small spinich salad...and plate with cabbage, turnip greens and couple pieces of crab meat. I was giddy but feel guilty now... Did I screw everything up? I can stay straight now for the newxt 3 days. Do you think I screwed myself out of surgery? Ive lost 12 lbs since I started the diet on the 11th.

Worried now. I didn't go back for seconds and small amount and I was full... :(

No, u didn't screw yourself up. My 2 week preop diet included 1 meal a day of 5 oz.of lean and 2 cups of non-starch veggies. After doing this (and sometimes a little more) for 2 weeks my doctor told me my liver looked great and he could tell I'd followed the diet.

Now, postop is another thing. DO NOT CHEAT IT! You could do damage to your sleeve and put your health in jeopardy. I will finish up 3 weeks of postop liquids on Monday and I cannot wait.

Good luck to you.

Thank you for the reply. I feel like a weight has been lifted. This is my first mistake since starting the process in April. I know it be tough but looking foward to getting full faster. Funny thing- I ate tonight some veggies I was craving. Felt full when I left butnow my stomach is growling not like when I eat the nasty shakes and powdered eggs and Soups. That tells alot

Thanks again

Angie

You are quite welcome. After surgery, you will definitely feel physically full faster. As I said, I'm still on my postop diet so I "eat" a lot of soups. I notice if I have chicken broth, I can have 6 to 8 oz. before I feel full. If I have a cramed Soup, I can have usually 5 spoonfuls at the most. And, that spoonful is a cocktail spoon which is just a tad bit bigger than most baby spoons. Right now, I'm working on the mental battle with food. Yes, 5 cocktail spoonfuls makes my belly stuffed. But my head still wants more because it tastes so good. It is really hard not to overeat right now. It's a battle of the physical and mental for me right now! :-)

My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday, 6/27. Really hate the shakes and having a hard time getting them down, but did well until tonight. Have had a bite of this and a nibble of that all evening. Not a large quantity, but upsetting after staying with the program so well until now. Maybe it's that food funeral thing and the realization that there are so many things that I will not be able to have- a least for awhile. Think I'll go to bed early to break the cycle. Tomorrow is a new day and hopefully I can focus and stay on the plan for just 3 more days. Just don't know why I do the things I do..

I went through that this past week. I was sick of the shakes and dry powder they call food when you add Water if you can stomach the smell ! It was a 600 calorie diet for two weeks. I did have one day when I went out to eat I was so hungry and just plain mad. I had only a small salad and one small plate of veggies. I walked out so happy. Like a person hooked on drugs sneaking a pill like they are hiding it from everyone else. But inside you are the only one it will affect. That night I went to bed so hungry that when I was eating the 600 nasty stuff. Long story short. It didn't affect my weightloss. But did get me onver the hurdle I needed. You are ok, I would say at least 80% or more cheat on the pre diet whether they tell anyone or not. You are human not Superwoman. Not yet anyway. :) Hang in there...do your best to stay on track. I ate alot of SF Jellos when I needed something different. Even had a couple plain rice cakes for texture one day. Monday is my day and it has all been worth it. By Christman this year, I will be........happy ....just happy with myself and self confident. Good Luck to you. I say a prayer for me and you today to reach our goals.

:)

I am so glad to hear that no food is off limits forever. I start my pre-op diet in 4 days, and although I haven't been splurging, I have been having the "good-bye forever" type thoughts. No matter how much you tell yourself these are foods you shouldn't be eating anyway, it doesn't make the desire go away. I love ice cream. The thought of never having ice cream was very depressing to me. I'm relieved to know that months down the road I'll be able to have a bite or two of ice cream! Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
