I am new to this site ( I've been reading a lot on it but have never posted until now ) and I am being sleeves on June 18th. I know most of my questions have been answered a million times probably but I still want to ask again.

1. What should I bring to the hospital to wear home? I know they say something comfy but since the incisions are on the stomach...would you recommend big shorts and a oversized Tshirt or like a one piece night gown?

2. Being put to sleep. I'm scared about it. Of course i had the EDG already and i woke up out it crying hysterically. I didn't hurt at all, wasnt scared or anything, and was fine 5 min later. I just didn't have control over my emotions. Anyone else experience that? Will it happen when I wake up from surgery?

3. Pain levels. I am pretty healthy despite being overweight and having asthma...can anyone in my boat tell me how they felt right after surgery?

4. Tell me what you wish someone would have told you before you did this.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum!

I wore home some loose sweatpants and a loose top. The shorts and tshirt will work just fine just make sure the elastic in the waistband doesnt fit too snug on your belly b/c that might be a little irritating for your incisions. The one piece dress might be your best bet though... my body seems to love anesthesia therefore i just didnt want to open my eyes i just wanted to sleep...i kept asking for my mom when i woke up...but i was a ok after 10 mins take a deep breath and relax your gonna b ok. I have asthma as well and i felt just fine after surgery. Unlike alot of ppl on thr forum i had my surgery done open...which means i just had one long incision instead of several small ones so i had some discomfort and a slight pulling sensation from the incision site but thats nothing your morphine pump cant fix..lol [=

I wish someone would have told me about it sooner (yea kinda cheesy but true) and that if an asthmatics blood pressure is running high dont give them metoporol!! It reacts horribly with asthma and causes you to constantly be coughing up never ending phlegm and feeling as though you cant breathe. If your blood pressurr is running high after surgery make sure they dont give you that b/c it had me feeling horrible.

I hope that helps

I had my surgery 2 days ago. I wore loose yoga pants and a tshirt, make sure it's loose because you may be a bit bloated. You want something to slip on easily under your hospital gown so you can walk around without showing off your goods.

Anesthesia was fine for me with no issues...like 'Beautiful D' I just wanted to sleep.

Pain afterwards just depends. Morphine did not touch my pain and I hurt....they finally changed to Dilaudid and I was a happy camper after that. Now, however, being home I am having seriously terrible gas pain.....I had heard some warnings about gas pain but had no clue how bad it really is.....and keep getting advice to walk, walk, walk! But like I said, this is different for everyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
