Advancing Diet Sooner Than Reccomended

Recommended Posts

I am 1 week post op and have been doing really well on liquids. I tried some mushy food last night, just a bite or two and was fine. What would the problem be skipping to something other than liquid sooner than my dr recommended? I'm thinking like a little chili without Beans or some slow cooked chicken, very soft and moist

The phases are there for a reason. Ask your nut before you do, you don't want to infect/burst your new tummy!

Your stomach needs to heal. Not just the outside but the inside. There are some of us that are suppose to be on liquids only for 5 weeks after surgery and it's obviously for a reason. I had a few teaspoons of broccoli cheddar Soup blended (which is on my full liquid diet) and thought I was dying of a heart attack because of the pain in my chest and under my ribs.

You went through all this diet and wanting to change the rules one week out....what is going to happen 5 months out. You have to be in it to win it, and learn to take your doctor's advice, otherwise why put yourself through the surgery.

Follow the dr's orders. They give them for a reason! It's NOT easy but it is worth it.

Remember the stomach is the mechanical part of digestion. You have a brand new staple line there. Guess what happens if it doesn't heal thoroughly?

Do a site search on Leak. It's a hospital trip in the waiting ... and for what? What is the benefit of progressing faster?

stop, stop stop

as your dr said, and most other dr.s said too, like mine - you just had major surgery on your stomach - 85% of your stomach was removed - and you must let your tummy heal. Listen to what your doc says.

Liquids first - very important - drink as much as you can - don't get ahead of yourself - even if your stomach says "hey this is no problem to eat" - no no no

as everyone else has said - listen to your dr. - you trusted him with operating on you - now trust him with your schedule for eating, slowly, and the way he recommends

I'm sure you will be fine - just listen to dr. like we all do

good luck

kathy

Thanks everyone. I will stick to the liquids. I'm a chef and sitting around all week is killing me. I've cleaned my house like 3 times this week, at least the exercise is good. I guess I just want to cook something ????. Definitely not worth a trip back to the hospital

Really glad I found this forum, you guys are all great

you are recovering from major surgery. Rest, relax and heal. I know it is boring and doing just liquids is very hard. Walk, sleep and enjoy your time off, the cleaning can wait until you are fully recovered.

Hang in there.

Think about it.. what's a couple weeks on this " diet " compaired to the rest of your life. Don't advance to soon and damage yourself.

I'm a chef, too. Am cooking ALL the time.....Cook a big ole' pot of homemade Soup or a white bean chili, then puree it with some sour cream and cheese. That's what I did....made a couple of Soups, then pureed them and 'drank' it out of a cup. Even chicken noodle, black bean, hell, Campbell's Bean with Bacon was good pureed when you're desperate for some flavor <_<

Also did that with regular chili....just pureed the hell out of it. This is the worst stage...your body and mind just want to EAT because you know you can't. It's a real mental game....and a life-changer. I had a harder time than I thought I would for the first few weeks....I just wanted to EAT so bad.

But, six weeks to a few months down the road, you'll look back and realize it wasn't hard...you just have to get over the mental hurdle that we can't turn to food anymore when we're bored, tired, etc.

It is definitely all in my head. I'll come around. I spoke with my drs office today and they told me to give it until at least Monday of next week so I will do that

On another note, is everyone forcing themselves to have a Protein shake even when they're not really hungry?

Yes. To get the Protein in. Lately I have been drinking 2 ounces, then later 2 more. Then after dinner 2 more. Seems to help.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
