Another slow loser here. I am 5 weeks post surgery and have lost approx 20lbs. But this includes a stall and then a 5lb drop in 2 days.

To be honest, although I wish was having amazing weight loss like some others I see posting I am just happy it's coming off, even though no one has noticed.

I now walk about 4 miles most days but the weight just doesn't drop off. But I have no back pain which I was getting walking to the end of the road pre op. I also have had no hair loss issues, when did this problem start with other people?

I am still delighted I had this op and look forward to the next lb off.

Congratulations to everyone on their weight loss :-)

I'm two weeks post-op and will probably be a slow loser - always have been. I'm fine with that, I'm sure it's better skin-wise, plus won't put as much stress on the heart. I'm wondering, though, does losing slower prevent hair loss issues?

No. You will get a bit of Hair loss no matter what you do. Basically it's a delayed reaction from the stress of surgery and recovery. It happened for me at 4 months out and seemed to right itself a month later. To make sure that it doesn't continue I would just eat healthy and get your Protein in.

I do want to add that for me, you couldn't tell by looking that I lost any hair. I could only tell that an inordinate amount was coming out during brushing and hair washing.

Have any of you guys had your metabolism tested? I've had mine done a couple of times pre-VSG because no matter what I did, it was impossible to lose weight. To lose, I would need to keep my calories between 800-1000 per day, which is why VSG seemed to be a good fit for me. Metabolic endocrinologists can do the testing in office, and it's as easy as relaxing and breathing into a tube. Really opened my eyes as to what was going on with my ridiculously slow metabolism and made me readjust my weight loss expectations.

I have never had mine tested, but I would not be surprised. I have a family history of obesity, and I have always had to work twice as hard as others to lose half the amount of weight. That is why I had actually given up hope before I found this surgery. I just could not keep up the extreme exercise and diet anymore, especially being a stay at home to 2 young children. The sleeve has been literally a miracle for me. It may have taken me longer, but I still got there and that is all that matters to me!

Everyone is different but I have found that weighing everyday has helped me tremendously. When I see the scale budge upward ever so slightly I really get focused and work harder or make some sort of change to see if I can make something happen..add or decrease calories, add more protein/water, excercise more,,etc. I was weighing once weekly and found I would gain and not know it, If I'd see an even larger gain, I would get so discouraged. So every morning, I use the restroom, strip down and weigh in. Every .01 counts and really keeps me motivated..but I weigh only once a day,,not throughout the day cause that will just set you up for disappointment.

I started losing hair at about 3 months out. I have tried everything to get it to stop but no luck. I am currently taking Biotin and biosil drops in addition to getting my Protein in. The hair that I do have is very healthy and shiny and I see new Hair growth. I'm not sure all the reasons it happens as it appears to be different for everyone. Some never lose any hair while others have lost considerable amounts. This was a big concern for me pre op but it didn't out way the benefits of the surgery. I have ALOT of health issues and I'm feeling so much better these days. Good luck,,you are doing great!

I always thought the Hair loss was from the rapid weight loss, not from the surgery itself. If that's the case, them I'm guessing it's on a person-by-person basis. I've had 4 other surgeries over the years and have never experienced post-op hair loss. Hoping (praying, begging, bartering to the gods) that I don't lose any now!

I lost A LOT of hair starting about 3 months, and I would consider myself a little bit of a slower loser. I think it really depends on the individual.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
