Dfw - Trader Joe's

Recommended Posts

For anyone living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth arae, I just found out they are opening Trader Joe's out here. Check out their website to see of there is one coming near you.

For anyone who is a TJ shopper, what do you recommend I check out when the store in my are opens soon? I've heard wonderful stuff about TJ and have always been jealous that I didn't have one in my area. Now, they are opening one and I can't wait to check it out. Tell me what you buy from there so I can start making my list.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Trader Joes. Simply would not move anywhere without it. Personally I love the mid level grade wine selection for my non oenophile friends, but I digress. I assume you are talking food?

Almost everything I purchase there is delicious. During soft phase I ate egg salad there with some spice to it. Only 60 calories a serving and it tasted decent. Still eat it today. Just take your diets list with you shopping and you will have a great time. They have pregrilled chicken strips for those of us too busy to cook our own. My excuse is I spent too much time at the gym.

Yippee for you. Love from - a TJ addict

TJs is our primary grocery store. They always have samples going, so be sure to check them out. It is always something interesting. Things I wouldn't normally think to make or buy.

We buy all the nitrate free deli meats and hot dogs. Whole wheat pastas, Peanut Butter, chicken nuggets ... you name it. You can't go wrong there.

I agree with PDXman - can't go wrong - try practically everything!! Their Pasta sauces and salad dressings. Frozen foods like turkey burgers, fish, all their vegetables. Great selection of teas. Cheeses, yogurt. Oh, in the cracker family - corn tortilla flat bread (salted sesame). They're awesome for so many uses.

The store closest to me will be the Plano one. Rumor is it is due to open September 7th. It seems like a long wait but I'm sure it will be here before I know it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
