Before having the sleeve, I never even tried to get a life insurance policy on myself, because I knew that it would either be denied, or be too expensive at my previous weight. Luckily for me, my husband is the breadwinner, and he is covered. But, now that my health is on its way to being "average/normal," I'm thinking of looking into getting covered.

My dad is a financial planner, and handles all our money. He arranged our policy for my husband, and when discussing this with him, he raised the question...

"Can you get life insurance after being sleeved?"

That thought had never occurred to me. I assume that, since you're healthier, etc, that you'd (I'd) be fine. But I'm curious if anyone else has had any experience with this? Has anyone opened a policy "post-sleeve?"

Thanks for the info :)

Really great question! I wonder if it matters if you were sleeved in the states or outside the states too...

Do you have to tell insurance you had the sleeve? what if you had the surgery done outside of the country?

It's my understanding that a complete and thorough medical history is taken before a life insurance policy is granted. They not only do a current physical and bloodwork up, but review all your past history.

One would think that having the sleeve to reduce weight and risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, etc would be a good thing, but I don't know...

I hope there's someone on this forum that can shed some light.

I saw on lapbandtalk.com that some banders had been denied insurance, but there is that whole artificial appliance thing going on with the band. I don't know if the same logic would apply, not that logic and insurance necessarily go together. LOL.

Has anyone heard any new info on this? I've been on a few insurance websites researching, and can't find anything written in black and white about it...I guess the next step is to call someone directly.

I'm just surprised no on this forum has tried to get life insurance post-op?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
