I have always been a veggie lover. However, even though I didn't despise carrots, I didn't really like them. I never in my life would touch them cooked. About 3 weeks ago, I started having RAGING desires for carrots. I bought a bag of baby carrots (which I had done a hundred times before and if my bird didn't eat them, they went bad). I developed a habit of eating 10 medium baby carrots as a nighttime snack (after I got in all my protein). I dip them in 2 tblspns of light dressing of some kind. Last night, I didn't have any carrots left. I actually was rather grumpy for the entire night and was waiting for today so that I could pick up some more carrots. My husband and I think that I must be low on Vitamin A. I have been taking my Vitamins religiously and continue to crave this thing that I never really liked for the first 32 years of my life. Every time I open my fridge I am glad I have my carrots for after my Protein is in. I even stopped eating my well loved salads so that I can munch on carrots. This is SO strange.

Has anyone else started liking something they previously weren't a fan of? Did it become a favorite? Is it something you think about often?

Yes, Protein Bars. I actually look forward to my morning Protein Bar now. I also snack on Clif bars when I want something sweet. I wouldn't have touched either one pre-op! :)

I have since become a vegetarian so I eat a LOT of carrots both raw and cooked- salads too- so for me I can say I used to not eat a lot of vegetables- now I eat them to my hearts content with no problems, concerns or worries... you cannot over eat on veggies and fruits, grains and greens. I feel 900% better and like my sleeve wish I would have done it sooner!!

I stopped eating the Protein bars and ready to drink shakes because they have too much sugar and carbs for me- I also didnt like the taste after changing the rest of my diet. NO processed foods here anymore- and when/if I do- it makes me a little woozie...

Hmmm....interesting. I am too newly sleeved to comment, but I am curious - wouldn't you have to chew the heck out of a raw carrot to swallow it after the sleeve?

I did boiled, steamed and sauteed until about 2 mos ago then did raw. I am about 7 mos post op and raw is no problem.

I started raw about 3 weeks ago. I chew them well, but I chew everything well now, and I have never had any issues. I wish I could have more veggies, but I just don't have room! Its hard to get in all the veggies I want anymore. It is really the only thing that makes me angry about this surgery. If that is the worst of my problems, I won't complain too much :)

Why on earth are you depriving yourself of vegetables??

I'm not. However, I only have room for so many things in a day. My priority is Protein. After that, I don't have a lot of room for anything else.

Gotchya- after becoming a vegetarian I have found alternative Protein sources that enable me to be both satisified and get my quota's and eat veggies all the time...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
