Recipe's Specific To The Different Phases Post-Op

Recommended Posts

I am coming down the line and will probably have a surgery date for the beginning of September sometime and am wanting to start preparing my pantry and so forth a little at a time. That being said, I see alot of recipes for mushies/soft and solids, but little in reference to the "liquid stage". From those of you that have already gone through this, can you post some of your favorite liquid stage recipes. This also would help with that pesky 2 week liquid pre-op too :)

Thanks :)

I'm not creative, so I didn't have any recipes during that stage. I just did Protein Drinks, crystal light with Beneprotein, Isopure clear, broth, SF Jello & SF popsicles. I didn't mix them or do anything special except for mixing crystal light with Isopure Clear Liquids to decrease the aftertaste.

Those ideas are good...I was told it would be "full liquids", not just clear for the pre-op and then also after the clear stage on the post-op. I have seen where thinned oatmeal is a choice for this...is that true?

I drank a lot of Gatorade, then got myself to drink G2 or Powerade Zero. I am really funny with artificial sweeteners now, I can't stand them, but am having difficulty with plain Water also.

During full liquids, my Dr. approved oatmeal, cream of wheat and mashed potatoes all made to a very thin consistency. I used to put unflavored Protein Powder in them (Unjury).

Don't buy a lot, as everyone will tell you. You will eat so little.

:D Umm, well, actually they are my wife's recipes. I'm just one of those lucky guys that ended up with a woman that seems to enjoy doing anything she can for me.

I'll ask her to write then down so I can transcribe them onto here

Full liquids: I drank Protein shakes, cream of chicken Soup (strained, thinned with skim milk, a scoop of Protein powder). I also ordered a few bottles of Davinci syrups in sugar free and made my own Protein Shakes (skim milk, Protein Powder, a couple squirts of Syrup, cottage cheese, and liquify that bad boy). My logic is if I can add protein to it, I will.

If you like hot tea, I enjoyed those too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
