So I tried out for Extreme Makeover: Weight Loss Edition and made it to the finals. Only 8 people made it. Today, I received a VIP pass for Biggest Loser in Chicago. Should I tell them sorry, I found a better solution.

Please read below, I made a correction to this statement. I tried out for Extreme Makeover in January and by the time I received a letter, I was in the progress for WLS. I had surgery last month. So far, I am glad I chose WLS.

No - tell them what you are going through...maybe they could work it into the show.

I'd be honest and tell them you're considering WLS. But I sure as heck would go and see if you make it further.

ETA: Oh, you've already had the surgery? Well if so, they won't take you unless it hasn't "worked"...so no need to go.

OMG. First off, congratulations! And secondly, you definitely should GO!!! That's an amazing opportunity and, if anything, you may be able to pick up better eating & exercise habits that will help you post op!

Just be sure to read all of the fine print. I would hate to find out later that I was on the hook for all kinds of expenses because there was a clause saying that, "If you have had WLS, you are responsible for reimbursement of all expenses, blah, blah, blah." ... because you were never a realistic candidate for the stated purposes of the show. But, like others have mentioned, talk to them about it. It may be another angle they may be interested in exploring.

I do not think that you will quality if you have had recent WLS. I know of a contestant who now lives in Iowa that had WLS after losing a ton or weight on the show but that was post show.......think you are out of luck but best luck on your weight loss post surgery.

I think I should have explained better. I went the WLS route in lieu of a reality show. I would have had to sell my soul to be on a reality show. If you read my blog, you will find out all the stuff they asked me to do. WLS was the route I chose. I wish I could give it to someone who could use it. I lost 53 pounds in 5 weeks and I walked 5.5 miles in the last two days and I didn't have to expose my life or sell my soul for it!

Feeding my son McDonald's and getting him to scream he wanted chicken and French fries into the camera is where I draw the line.

This is why I want to make a documentary on these shows. I love them, but at the same time I think some of them are just plain hogwash. The whole industry is manipulating you into a false reality and then selling you apps, diet pills and more. It is all about $.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
