Nonstop Burping And Nausea :(

Recommended Posts

It seems like its one thing after another...smh. I just left the hospital less than a week ago and now I have another issue: Burping and Gas. I have been burping nonstop all day. After less than a sip, the burping starts and it does not end. Also I can feel the gas in my stomach, I feel bloated and full! Just a minute ago, it got so bad I threw up some Water I had drank. What I can do to stop this? I don’t want call my doctor for this if I don’t have to. I was thinking of trying Gas X.....

I'm right there with ya Delta_35!! I am constantly belching all the time!! I don't have the nausea with it like you do tho. It doesn't matter if I am drinking or eating I always have to belch. It does get embarrassing when you're out in public, but I guess I can always blame it on the hubby for doing it (he he he) :P

I am glad there are others who have this problem. Well I couldnt find the Gas-x Stripes but i did find the soft gels and it did help....i stopped burping last night was able to get a decent sleep. Today I did find out that i cannot tolerate milk based Protein so back to the drawing board on that, but other than that, am doing great! Nothing bad to report at the moment. Lets pray no more throwing up for at least 24 hrs! LOL

Yeah the burping is not that uncommon and just to set the record straight you are NOT burping up the "gas" that they inflate your abdomen up with during surgery. What little is left inside you is dissolved into the blood within hours of the surgery. What you are burping up is genuine intestinal / stomach gases. Your poor stomach just got cut in (less than) half and is internally swelling, ANY gas is too much and makes you burp it up because of the discomfort.

GasX strips / lozenges help but the true remedy is just time, the stomach swelling goes down and makes more room and becomes more tolerant of the small about of gas we all get. Stick it out, it's uncomfortable but it will pass.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
