brendi77 1 Posted June 11, 2012 Hello Everyone, I am fairly new to SleeveTalk.com. I had a Gastric Sleeve operation done in February 13 2012. It has been a journey, so far I have gone down from 225 to 167 which is amazing, however I am scared to death of food now. I usually go to counseling every week, which I am grateful for. I look at everything before I eat it and if it has too many carbs (or what I consider to many) I will not eat it, which means I limit myself way too much. I feel I have become weak and very cranky at times because my body is craving food. I spoke to my counselor today and she said it is a normal thing to go through. I want to work through it, but I have no idea what people eat that is ok for weight loss. Can anyone tell me if they have gone through something familiar and what they did to over come it? Thank you! emily_0192010 168 Posted June 11, 2012 The way I approach carbs is this, IF I have hit my Protein goal AND my Water for the day (or I know I will, like if I pre-plan my day) then I don't worry about any additional carbs. In fact, when I am in a stall, I usually UP my carbs for a couple days in order to break it. It works, most of the time. As for your body feeling yucky, I went through that too. Sometimes it helps to drink a Powerade zero or propel Water. The electrolytes and Vitamins (if they have vitamins) might give you a boost. Plus it counts as water so you can't go wrong there. Congrats on talking to the counselor! That is GREAT and I'm happy to hear that you have that support. Good luck and thanks for sharing 1 brendi77 reacted to this
brendi77 1 Posted June 11, 2012 I honestly try to pre plan my days with the food intake, I try to drink Protein Shakes in lieu of food but I am so sick of the Protein shakes... I try to eat more meats and veggies meaning the amount that I can eat. Sometimes I hit my goal and sometimes I don't... I know I will get the hang of it. I do need counseling, this surgery and what I am going through is a lot harder than I expected. I am blessed with a great counselor that deals with these types of issues. Thank you for your well wishes!
Meredith 8 Posted June 11, 2012 I'm mentally going through the same feelings right now. I'm only 12 days post-op and have lost 22lbs since the surgery. I'm still going through my weekly diets, but I'm even afraid to add new foods (cottage cheese, etc.) to my Protein. I know that when I'm able to eat whatever, I'll mentally shut down and go crazy. In the back of my mind, I know I need counseling because it's a big deal emotionally. I've found amazing friends throughout this website. If you're cheating and being stupid with food choices, they'll let you know. Also, they'll help you when you need it most... that's the best part! 1 brendi77 reacted to this
brendi77 1 Posted June 11, 2012 I am figuring that out now. I am greatful to this site and the support group meeting that I go monthly and also the weekly counseling sessions. It all helps trust me. I thought I was going Anorexic which is what my mother insisted I was. It is not that I dont want to eat it is just that I am trying to hard to do the right thing. I used to be an emotional eater, and carbs were my very weakness. My counselor said to not be afraid to eat in moderation which is what is important. I will try not to feel guilty and I wil now and again try everything like she said in moderation. Thank you for sharing. Good luck to you as well

Hey we're sleeve twins!! (2/13/12) I find that a lot of fears come from the "unknown" elements of something. I got pretty wrapped around the axle about everything i was taking in. I wanted to log the air particles i was breathing. My Fitness Pal has been a great tool for seeing that what I'm taking in is not as big and bad as it feels sometimes. At first it helped me become obsessive about food logging, but now Im using it to my benefit. It's a good look at reality, whichever side of reality you have trouble with. I keep thinking I'm over eating or not getting enough Protein, or not exercising enough, but when I enter it all in to MFP, my mind can rest knowing I'm on track. I don't know if that helps at all....
brendi77 1 Posted June 11, 2012 Thank you soo much for your suggestion of Fitness Pal. I did start doing it at the beggining of the surgery but then stopped. I should take that up again. I am sure it will calculate my Proteins for me, which in turn will put your mind at ease. Thanks again. :-) 1 Dooter reacted to this
elizabeth12677 6 Posted June 11, 2012 I was just talking to my mom about being scared of food last week. I am making an appointment to see my therapist and going to group this week but this post has made me feel better. Not alone! I don't want to eat bad food and fitness pal has helped but I am nervous about eating out, what to order, people looking at what I don't eat! I use to eat my feelings and I don't want to fall back into that 1 brendi77 reacted to this
brendi77 1 Posted June 25, 2012 I can just imagine how bad you feel. Therapy does help. Don't be afraid to order out and leave the food that you know is bad for you. I do it all the time! :-) I just try and eat what I can and now is good for me and my weight loss. I go out with my husband and he doesn't make me feel bad because my portions are less than his, he usually takes it home and eats it later LOL!! :-)
