Thank you so much for the info on Dr Lopez. I will be having surgery on the 24th. Samuel is to de our driver as well. A Molly or ? Is the patient caregiver. My husband is going with. I received loads of information but feel much better knowing what someone else really went through. The decision to have surgery was easy compared to the waiting and not knowing what to expect. Not much out there about Dr. Lopez and nothing bad that I could find. I went through alighterme. Total cost for surgery was 4700.00. Much less than here in states. I have checked out website for hotel and Mi hospital. Looks good. Now for the crappy diet.. I can do it I can do it...

You will love Samuel and his brother. Their Dad is great, too. Bring cash to tip them, they'll earn it and you'll appreciate their help. The hospital that Dr. Lopez works from in TJ is one of the cleanest I've ever been in (and I am in hospitals every week for my job).

Good luck. I'm down 54 pounds now.

One thing... I was told I would be going to Mi Doctor Hospital, but ended up at INT Hospital. Still a very good & clean hospital, but I was confused when I arrived.

Mine was 4 weeks ago. I am down 25 lbs total (19 lbs since surgery). I think I am going to be a slow loser. I am doing alright. The problems I was having before are pretty much gone. I still have a weird incision that looks like it is healing as an open hole. I did decide to take an LoA from my job an focus on getting healthy.

Miss...glad that your doing better. From everything I have read slow losses are the best. Nothing good is ever easy they say. When is vacation time ever bad? We live on a small farm and my husband works from home so my vacations are far and few. Please keep me posted on your progress. Kind of feels like ones success is everyone's success! Have a good day, think of me as I try and drink the Protein for breakfast!

Question...does Dr. Lopez use a drain and does he use staples? When does the drain come out and how do you get rid of the staples?

He does use a drain and it comes out the night before your flight leaves. The staples stay in your new stomach and that's how it's held together. I believe he does sew over the staple line as well.

Does he use staples on the outside over the incisions? My pcp isn't included in this. Said he would not treat me if I did this. Have not found another doctor yet. :-(

No your incisions are not stapled shut. I think they use some kind of glue or disintigrating stitch on the inside. I had a problem with mine popping open.

I am booked on 08/27 with Dr. Lopez. Thank you so much for sharing! To be honest, I am in the same nervous boat as I can't find much info online. My doctor is the one who is sending me to Mexico lol...funny how some are for it, and some are so opposed. Miss, has your incision healed? When you say popping open....ummm...how open??

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
