Hello' date=' I live in Las Vegas. But I am just starting out on this adventure. The surgeron is going to Be Dr. Teng, does anyone know him?

I am a medicare person, today he told me that Medicare is not paying for the sleeve, but I brought him in the new information that as of June 27 they are giving approvals on a one on one bases. He told me that isn't true that he has submitted over 100 of them for sleeves and has not received one approval. I am wondering if anyone has used Medicare for there sleeve surgery?[/quote']

Dr Teng did one of my friends surgeries and she thinks he was an excellent surgeon. I didn't have medicare but I hope you can get approval. If he's not willing to work for approval you can always try a different surgeon in Vegas!

Oh ... Btw do you think it's ok to drop in support meetings from other surgeons?

Dr M hasn't set up his meetings yet and I'd like to attend Dr Hanna's meeting in the meantime ??

Dr Hanna isn't my surgeon and he has welcomed me to his meetings :) and desert springs isn't ran by a surgeon just a bariatric nurse open to all and I was sleeved at Oband and they said okay to bring friends as well!

Hi Luci;

Hi and welcome to the site.

I just met with Dr. Umbach this week, he seems like a nice doctor. How do you feel about him? Did he do a good job for you? Did he have good bedside manners? I need to know as much as I can about him, I hope you can help me.

Thank you,

Karen

Dr umbach and his staff are great. He did my sleeve back in June and it couldn't have gone better He isn't the most talkative guy but he tells you what you need and gets the job done. Mindy is his insurance coordinator and is the best. She was also at the hospital the day of my surgery and was fantastic. She is also a patient of dr umbach so she can really relate to what you are going through. Good luck!

Im doing ok now. Surgery was 7-25-12 and Im just healing. Karen, I like dr umbach but he dissappointed me a little. All the sleeve talk was that you would be able to drink shakes after surgery but for me it wasnt. I guess for 2 wks after you cant drink more than 1 oz of Water etc, and thats normal, just no one tells u, so I freaked out Still 1 month after surgery, I could barely eat or drink anything (maybe 1 cheese stick (9g of protein) and 10 oz water. He only said "Everyone heals at thier own rate!" I know he knows that all this is normal but never said anything to me. It took my pain doc to say hey you need electrolytes now cause I was getting worse (nausea & vomiting) for no reason so we decided on pedia pops and after 10 days I can finally drink 1 Protein Shake a day. But he helped with suggestions etc. Dr umbach deals with this daily, so Ive been a little dissappointed that he wouldnt have the suggestions. But besides that, he is a good surgeon. When is ur surgery??

      Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

      The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
