massindex 346 Posted June 10, 2012 Be very careful here. It is very easy to get dehydrated. Your sense of smell and taste buds will return but you have to stay hydrated.
MyGastricSleeveLife 180 Posted June 10, 2012 If you can't handle regular Water, add Crystal Light or some other flavorings. Like massindex said, you need to make sure you get as many fluids as possible. Right after surgery, anything counts toward your liquid total for the day, but you need to make sure you're staying hydrated somehow or you'll end up back in the hospital with dehydration. As far as smells go, it is different for everyone. I noticed smells were stronger, but they didn't bother me. However, I do have a friend who said the smells bothered her for the first week or so after surgery. Hang in there!!

I had surgery same day as you and food odors have been really strong since then. Wife brought home el pollo loco for her and the kids and I had to leave the room Water tastes funny to me right now too. Just been drinking Protein shakes and sobe life water instead
2bsmallagain 156 Posted June 10, 2012 I know exactly what you are talking about. My sense of smell has been heightened and my tastes have totally changed. The smell has not gone away and things that make me sick to look at I will probably never eat again. The bad taste in your mouth does subside with time but it will take a little while. Make sure you drink something like gatorade or Powerade with electrolytes if you cannot stand Water because you will dehydrate quickly. You will feel tired for a while because you just had a major surgery and your body is trying to heal so that is normal. Just keep drinking it will help you feel better I promise.
