Any Bay Area California Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm just starting the process, anyone near Santa Cruz or Santa Clara? I will be going through Kaiser Santa Clara and would appreciate some local support.

I am not from the Bay, but am close-ish lol I am from Mendocino County, about 3-4 hours north of SF. I know someone that went to the Kaiser in Santa Clara.

I am sure there are tons of people on here from that area, but wanted to offer support anyhow.

:)

Thanks, I've gotten no responses, so I was getting a little discouraged.

Maybe there aren't as many in this area as I thought?

I do appreciate your reply.

Hi Kate, I live in Santa Cruz and had my surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital (Blue Cross). My surgeon is out of San Francisco, but has offices all over including San Jose. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't work with Kaiser.

Where are you in your process?

I've only gone to the about orientation, will go to the surgeon orientation in about 3 weeks, I'm just starting.

Would love to talk with you if you're amenable to that.

I'm in Napa. I'm at goal, happy to help if you have questions. I self-paid so I'm no help with insurance issues, but other questions, fire away!

Hi Kate,

I'm in San Jose and went through Kaiser Fremont. Kaiser Bay Area has a Yahoo board for WLS too. I sometimes go to the Fremont Support Group. Not so much now that I am in maintenance and not gaining.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
