Whats The Big Difference? Band And Sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I everyone! I had a band in from '08-'10 and just now had the gsv. I am wondering what are the major differences between the two that those who have undergone both processes notice. I'm only a few days post-op so any head's up would be helpful!

Maybe you could be a little more specific. I could list 100 major differences both obvious and not so much.

I think rather than try to work with your sleeve using differences as a guide, just go by how your sleeve works. The nice thing is that your don't have to go back in for fills and un-fills. Just follow your surgeon's prescribed diet, i.e., Clear Liquids, full liquids, purees, Protein first, don't drink 1/2 hour before and after meals, etc.

A band is placed on the neck of the stomach and only slows down the passage of food to the stomach in order to give you time to feel full. You still have all your stomach capacity remaining. With the sleeve, 85% of your stomach is removed only leaving a small tube. Once that tube is full 3-4oz, trust us when we say you will be full and will learn very quickly to not push it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
