Allergies Post Sleeve - Wth?

Recommended Posts

Help!!!! In all of my 48 years i have never been allergic to anything, NOTHING!!! I was sleeved on 4/10/12 and since my 4th week post op, i have had horrible bouts of itching skin. I haven't changed my laundry detergent, body soap, deodorant - NOTHING!! I have tried process of elimination with certain fruits/foods but no success there. In fact I could mimic my diet for every single day in a week and it's guaranteed that on one of those days i'm going to start scratching like a monkey. This is driving me flipping nuts. i'm making an appointment to see an allergist this week to get to the bottom of this. i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like this...My sister gave me a Zyrtek (sp??) and it stopped immediately which leads me to believe I am now allergic to something..but what???

Hey there- im in the same damn boat.

I had NO allergies pre-op and now I lie awake at night itching parts of me that never itched before!!!! Like you I havent changed detergent or switched up my eating... so this is truly puzzling.

I had no immediate itching post-surgery but it seems that its gotten progressivly worse. I slather my skin with Cortizone creme and gel and that provides temporary relief- but not much.

I am about to call the doc and see if I may be allergic to the gall bladder meds or the omniprezrole (Prilosec).

Have you had any relief from your itching? Did you start taking Zyrtec or something? I hate the thought of going on another med- so I may try local bee pollen and see if that helps.

Please keep us posted on what the allergist said I am pre-op and I have many allergies I was concern of the staple line and if I would be allergic to it but I was told that they are hypoallergenic.

It would be interesting to know what your allergist says I'm planing on going to mine and asking before surgery about the staple line.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
