lunabella007 37 Posted June 10, 2012 I had a great surgery, as far as I can tell. I was up and walking just four hours after coming out from anaesthesia--I use my spirometer religiously, take a walk every two hours, and cough to prevent pneumonia. I got the hiccups pretty bad, though. I even hiccupped through my surgery! They came and went, but tend to come more often when I go from sitting to standing *hic hic hic*. I think these hiccups might be giving me too much air in my bowels. I'm burping ALL THE TIME but I can't fart! This is really frustrating, since I'm so full of air that I can barely keep up with my hydration--nevermind "eating" anything. My pain is manageable, but I'm telling you if I don't make an air soon I'm gonna scream! Did anyone else here have this problem? How did you deal with it? How long did it take to go away? The only thing the nurses recommended was keep on walking--but I'm walking as much as I can! What should I do?

lunabella007 37 Posted June 10, 2012 gasX is a lifesaver just after surgery. I've had two of the chewables but it doesn't seem to be helping
justmest 3 Posted June 10, 2012 It took me until day 3 post op to fart. Felt great when it finally happened too! I burped CONSTANTLY for the first 5-6 days, now it's only when I drink or eat. It gets better Try Gas x strips if they don't nauseate you. 1 lunabella007 reacted to this

My husband is going to laugh so hard when he hears me whoopin' and hollerin' when I finally make an air lol On the upside, though, I haven't had any heartburn AT ALL since I had the surgery, and I used to have to pop tums like they were candy! emily_0192010 168 Posted June 10, 2012 LOL... just be patient! It takes time for your body to fully "wake up" from anesthesia... It took me a couple days too!
Back~To~Amy 307 Posted June 10, 2012 I've had and continue to have very little issues with gas after surgery day. However, when I do have an issue, 2 Gas X strips do the trick. Hope you blow your hubby out of the house soon! :-) 2 Territravel and Failure reacted to this
MonkeyNurse 26 Posted June 10, 2012 You are doing fantastic otherwise. I could barely get out of my hospital bed the first two days. I was so wiped out.
