Hi! I am 24 and was sleeved less then 2 wks ago. The day of surgery I was 253; however my highest weight was about 261. I have always been overweight and since age 17-22 I average between 200-225. I have a 6 yr old. My goal weight is 180 because I can't imagine being smaller. I am so scared of the thought of extra skin. I have seen so many horror storied online; nevertheless, I have also seen people who didn't need plastic surgery. Do I have anything major to worry about?

Unfortunately, no one can tell you if you have anything to worry about as a lot of factors play into how your skin shrinks. One of the big ones is your genetics which are different in each person. I too worry about this. What I do know is I've read a ton of people say they'd rather be thinner with loose skin than to weigh what they weighed when they started this journey.

Hi There! I am 23 and at my biggest weighed 304 lbs. I was always a larger girl who spent most of her teen years around 230-250. I now weigh 175 lbs and do have a bit of excess skin. I was nervous about the excess skin pre-op too. I was told that since I was so young, the chances of my skin snapping back was good. Some of it did, some of it didnt. My excess skin now is mostly in my arms and tummy. Honestly though, excess skin is the least of my worries. I would almost say I wear my excess skin like a prize. I am the tiniest I have ever been since 8th grade! I have lost an entire person in weight and I am healthy, which is something that I never in my wildest dreams imagined! I would much rather been skinny and have some excess skin than be fat and have tight skin. When you get further out from surgery I am sure you will feel this way too. There are surgery options for excess skin if it really is bothersome to you. Dont fret too much though, I dont think you have much to worry about at all! Best of luck!

25 here with two kids. I've only lost about 40lbs but I kind of see that I am going to have some extra skin under my arms and probably a bit in my tummy. Those are the two areas where I have stretch marks from gaining weight so I'm guessing my elasticity is shot. Like others though... I'll take it in a heartbeat :) it's a lot easier to hide extra skin than all that fat!

I also started at 250, and set a goal for myself at 180. I am 6 months out and weigh 160. I'm 31 yrs old and also have a 6 year old. I do have a little excess skin by my "pouch", but not bad enough to worry about plastic surgery. I an so happy with my weight loss, that little but of skin is no bother to me. Everyone it's different, but I agree with the others. I'd rather have a bit of loose skin than my big old tummy rolls. You'll get to 180 in no time and I wouldn't be surprised if you lost more. Either way, you'll feel better. It's amazing how much more energy I have. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
