Comment My Doctor Made That I Worry A Little About- Maybe Don't Look At This If Pre-Surgery

Recommended Posts

My doc said that to me too and I thought it was funny. Of course, she said it AFTER my surgery as explanation why I felt so bad.

I'm day 2 post op with little incision pain. I hardly need Tylenol. The gas pain is worse than the incisions.

It's true. Many surgeons have very poor bedside manner. They may be amazing with a scalpel, but terrible at human relationships, which is why they l,ike their patient's asleep. Believe me, as an RN of 33 years, I have seen and delt with a lot of surgeons. NOT ALL are like this, but certainly, many are. Take what he/she said with a grain of salt and chalk up their insensistivity, to their own social awkwardness. The incisions with likely hurt to some degree, but how many of us actually know what being stabbed 5 times feels like?

THat was a really weird way to phrase it. It felt sore. The pain was about 50% less than what I thought. I never even took any of my liquid lortab once I got home. I did take toradol in the hospital nad had a PCA that I hit a few times. My gall bladder two years prior hurt about 50% more than I thought it would.

It's been a while since I had my gallbladder removed laparoscopically - but I didn't think of it as being "stabbed" 4 times. However, I guess that's pretty accurate description. I can tell you that - at least for the gallbladder removal- I had the surgery on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and was back at work the following Monday - very little pain by then. The first couple days at home were a little painful - especially trying to sit down or get up. But it only lasted a couple of days. I think I even had to drive somewhere the day after surgery and I was fine.

I had pain after surgery but only because the hospital staff tried to put me in a bed that was way too tall for me. Once my dr found out he was angry and got me a step stool to use. He made the comment of how can she get up there when she's been gutted (a joke he liked to use and warns you about). I had a quirky/funny surgeon and can see him making a joke about being stabbed. When I asked what I'd feel like after he said high on pain meds and laughed.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
