I had this done also and thought it was no biggie until i was puking with every meal. So i googled hernia repair and its a major surgery with in its self. And with surgery there is swelling. once i realized where it was located and that the swelling was kinda like an obstruction. I just had to eat even slower and chew even more. It will go down more and more each week and it will get easier to eat and keep food down.

Q - did you know you had a hernia before they went in to do sleeve? I have never thought I had one, never had issues or been told I had one....but just wondering if this is common to not know and when they go in, its there and repaired?

I just want to be sure I understand ...

We're talking about a Hiatal Hernia here ... right?

You have already been sleeved ... what was your sleeve date?

They did NOT perform the correction when they did your sleeve ... correct?

I did not know I had a hiatal hernia and my surgeon fixed it when he was in there doing my sleeve. It is a little bit tight on the swallow, but not really a big deal.

Who did your sleeve?

Do a search on this site for Hiatal Hernia and you will get lots of information.

I've been stretched twice and need it again. I'm not sure it ever gets like it should. I pretty much can't eat anything I'm suppose to without throwing up. Good luck. Stay on ur doctor

Did you not have it when you had the surgery? My dr did it during my wls. (had no idea it was even there let alone it was severe) I don't feel as though it added much more discomfort to the surgery, most of my pain came from the incision my stomach was removed from.

Are they doing the stent in your stomach? I just got one Friday as I have a leak. It's not so terrible (:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
