Depressed, Fatigued And Dizzy

Recommended Posts

Ad my first post op appointment with pcp. All blood work was great. Had diarrhea for about six days. The meds make me fatigued, nauseous, dizzy and tired. Feeling depressed. Have tried every medication available over the last twenty years. A the good side I've lost 72 pounds since my ore-op diet and surgery. No exercise for about six weeks as I am too dizzy at present and have little motivation. Pray for me. Your words of council would be greatly appreciated.

Any reason given why you are suddenly experiencing vertigo?

I think it is the diarrhea medication. The doctor wants me to go back to Clear liquids and crackers. No Protein drinks. Ugh.

Do you think to Protein Drinks are giving you diarrhea? After my surgery certain shakes sent me right to the bathroom, and I was dizzy all the time because I was getting zero calories. I started drinking Unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein, as well as unflavored Protein Powder in zero calorie lifewater. It seemed I could only tolerate warm or room temp drinks. I am three months post op and a few brands of Protein Shakes still do not agree with me...maybe you can try a few different brands and see if you can tolerate a specific brand. For me, the pure protein brand is best tolerated... but if I have a special k shake I am running to the bathroom within 15 minutes!

I have using the same Protein Drinks since my surgery on February 24, or rather since my preop diet.

Before surgery I had no issues with special k, after surgery I just could not tolerate it. I thought maybe I had become lactose intolerant, so I used the injury products and stayed away from milk. Are your Protein Drinks milk based? I was sleeved on February 14...

Both Protein drinks I use are whet based. It would be strange to develop an allergy at 16 weeks wouldn't it?

It really sounds to me like you are dehydrated. I know you had an appt with your surgeon and he/she would have picked up on this, but it doesn't seem like they did. I might suggest uping your Water intake with the Protein intake too. It couldn't hurt. I might also drink some low calorie G2 Gatorade to help replace some of your electrolytes. All and all, this couldn't hurt any. I got dehydrated somewhat and got dizzy and almost fainted. If your dehydrated it can cause your blood to thicken and your heart rate to become low also. It is also known to cause fatigue. I'm not a doctor, but I am an advocate for hydrating ourselves. ;)

The doctor did not say anything about my blood pressure being low. I am drinking lots of crystal lite. I usually get about 100 grams of Protein. But I have only been drinking Protein drinks for the last week. I did have refried Brenda with chicken added once or twice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
