Hey everyone! I was on here a couple of weeks ago and I came across a post that had the name of an awesome WLS book that also acted like a workbook but I cant find the post. I just bought "WLS for Dummies" but was hoping to find that workbook type resource book or any other suggestions you guys may have! I really appreciate it! Thank u!

There is one best used pre-op called The Emotional First Aid Kit, by Cinthia L. Alexander. It really helped me to prepare.

I'm pre-op. I'll have to check out those! Right now the only book I have in reference to WLS is Successful Weight Loss With The Gastric Sleeve by Dr. Alvarez which I highly recommend. It's a short book, but great info on the sleeve and life after being sleeved. :) Was easy to read and it's the first self-help type book that I read in one afternoon without putting it down. I'm a reader, but non fiction books aren't usually page turners for me. Lol

I'm reading "It Ain't Over 'til the Thin Lady Sings.". It was written by an addiction specialist about her gastric bypass 10 years ago. Some of the info is not pertinent to us, but the emotional component sure is. She makes many suggestions for coping with emotions once food can no longer be your method of self-soothing. I'm enjoying reading it.

Thanks everyone. I bought, before starting this thread, Weightloss surgery for Dummies, but its really out dated (2005). So I'm looking for a new one so I can return this because I feel like this caters mostly to gastric bypass patients. I'm checking out

The weightloss surgery workbook by Doreen A. Samelson

Preparing for weightloss surgery by Robin Apple

Has anyone heard of these? BtW, I was looking at the emotional first aid kit, and its only available online so im trying to see other options as well.

I went to the library yesterday and got the book "The Everything Post Weight Loss Surgery Cookbook"; it is wonderful. The first part of the book is about WLS, how to meet goals, emotional issues, exercise, wardrobes, etc.

I am thinking of buying the book, I like it so much.

I downloaded that one a few days ago. It's not by a doctor but it's an interesting read. I'm pre op and it has given me tons of info like questions I should be asking my doctor. It's almost a book made up of the most interesting and useful threads here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
