I'm 5'll and 650, bmi of 93. I feel confident going into this that I will be healthy and will succeed. I'm sure you will be fine as well! Good luck!

Mine was well above 60. My surgeon wasn't concerned about my size since I don't have diabetes or heart issues. His main concern was my getting up and about as quickly as possible to reduce to possibility of blood clots. I did have an IVC filter placed before my surgery (and it will be coming out June 19th) to reduce the risk of life-threatening blood clots.

I have had a very smooth recovery so far and I was fortunate not to even have the gas pain that a lot of sleevers get.

What are you confused about specifically? Is it how your BMI is calculated? It's based on both your height and weight. If you Google "BMI Calculator" and enter your statistics, it will give you a BMI of 60.6, which is around what cookies' was before being sleeved. A "normal" BMI is between 19 and 24, which would be between about 95 to 120 pounds for you.

There are a number of factors that are considered when deciding if the vertical sleeve is your best option. Make sure your surgeon knows you're interested in that when you see him/her.

Good luck and let us know how your consult goes!

My starting BMI was 56, pretty close to 60. Ive seen alot of "heavyweights" have sucess with the sleeve so dont get discouraged!

Had my surgery at 349, puts us at a greater risk for blood clots, so you MUST get up and walk, use your leg compressors (my doc ordered a machine for me at home, was paid for by insurance) and I went home giving myself blood thinner injections once a day for 10 days.

Typically 40 is a minimum BMI to get an insurance co to pay for the surgury.

You are going to be so happy, because this is going to work. I am 5'1" and was 246. Not quite as high as you, but close enough. You might want to check out The World According to Eggface. She was 5'2" and 300+ pounds. She is a bypass patient, but she gave me hope that us obese petite people can be complete successes. My doctor wanted me to get bypass because of my high BMI, but I think the sleeve is the better choice. We lose just fine and are healthier without the malabsorbtion.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
