Hello All-

At the end of the month we are having a surprise party for my friends birthday, there will be 20 people and we are trying to do as much of the cooking as we can so we have money to spend on the main course and gifts ect..

My question is what can i make, i'll be about a 2 weeks shy of my 2 month and i'd like it to be something i can also eat as there will be plenty of bad food, IE chips and Cookies n crap..

I think next week i can move up to chili, but that's not a really good app, then i gotta buy all the crap to go with it and it's kinda messy to transport..

Any ideas???

Thanks!

Rai

So what stage exactly will you be at when it's time for the party? I love to cook and might have some ideas but need more info. Another resource would be food Network's website, you can do a search for it. They have a huge database of recipes and you'd be sure to find some easy to make, inexpensive recipes.< /span>

A first thought is to do mini twice baked potatoes. Get the little potatoes, bake 'em, cool enough to handle, cut in half, scoop out some of the inside,, leave a good shell. Mix the insides w/ some shredded cheddar and chives, scoop back in to shells. At this point you can transport. Reheat to warm thru and melt cheese a little. Top with little dabs of sour cream and sprinkle chives on top.

In my grocery store here we have a fat free sour cream called Naturally Yours. It is SO good and I use/cook w/it like I would full-fat sour cream!

Another idea is to do deviled eggs. Easy, cheap and transport well, Even if you just piped in the yolks at the party to make sure they transport okay. Use a couple of dozen eggs and it makes 48 deviled eggs. Those always go fast at any potluck/parties I'm at.

Have fun and get creative!

I'm not sure what stage you at, but if your at mushies what about guacamole, hummus, or bean dip. If your on soft foods what about a shrimp ceviche

It definitely depends what stage you are at. I would google hungry girl appetizers since her recipes are easy and low calories. A few ideas would be pigs in a blanket, you can cut one Pillsbury crescent into three to cut down on the carbs and they have the mini weenies in turkey dogs. Definitely a yummy treat.

Another thing that is easy and delicious is buffalo chicken dip http://www.franksredhot.com/recipes/franks-redhot-buffalo-chicken-dip-RE1242 or you can google Hungry girl buffalo chicken dip and find a healthier version.

Turkey meatballs are good. You can buy them already made put then in a crock pot. next to the Salad Dressing in the grocery store with the ethnic sauces there is a sweet chili sauce made my Iron chef with a yellow And rest label its delicious end then sweeten it up with sugar free grape smuckers jelly

Speaking of turkey, maybe you can try making some "Turkey Meatloaf Muffins?" They look relatively easy to make, and look pretty appetizing. Also of note, on that YouTube channel, I made the slow cooked chicken salsa meal, and used mango peach salsa, and it turned out brilliant!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
