I am considering the Gastric Sleeve Surgery; however, I am want to speak with someone that has had this surgery sometime ago. My questions are did they meet their weight loss goals? Have they had any problems? Are they keeping the weight off?

Hi Addison, I will be 2 years out in September.

I met my first weight loss goal in about 7 months which was to hit Onederland. I was 272 Lbs on surgery day. I've made numerous other goals for me since then. I'm currently sitting at about 169 Lbs at the moment. Just depends on the day.

I have no problems right now however post op for the first few weeks I experienced some nausea. I also had some significant fatigue for the first 4 months, so that might be something you consider.

Yes I'm keeping the weight off, in fact I do still lose more weight here and there. I'm working on toning up so with building more muscle I am losing more fat.

HTH

Hey, I'm 8 months post op and have had no complications. Weight loss is a little slow right now. I weight 149 lbs and my personal goal is to get to 130 - 135 lbs. I have a bounce weight of 2 - 3 lbs but I think everyone does. I really need to kick up my exercising. I find every excuse not to do it and am finding myself in a funk. Need to kick my A$$.........LOL I love my skinniness! My posture has changed drastically. :)

I'm 19 months out and no I have not yet reached my goal. I may actually revise it at some point (and no it's not a super-low weight or anything un-acheiveable) but for me personally this has been a verrrrry slow journey. Some people race down the scale and others drop a little at a time. I'm more like the latter of the two.

But I cannot stress enough how much I would do this surgery over again! I've been thrilled with my sleeve and I'm not unhappy at my current weight, but would like to lose another 15lbs at least. It is hard work but so totally worth the effort!!!

I had zero complications, in fact I know I'm rare but I have never once (not even due to stomach bug, flu, etc.) vomitted with my sleeve. So that makes me really happy because I hate to do that more than almost anything. I know of people who have had complications so I'm not meaning to gloss over the serious risks that are part of such a major surgery, but for me personally I had NO complications whatsoever.

I'm 8 mths out today and about 14 lbs away from my ultimate goal of 145. I had many goals along the way, like most people....getting out of the size 3X, out of 2X, hitting Onederland, etc. In April of 2011, (when I started really researching VGS) I was 253 lbs, today I am 159. And I would do it all over again and again and again!! I remember reading that in everyone's post before I had the surgery and it's so true for me too.

I didn't have anything that I would call complications. Sure you have to learn when "some" is "too much" and what foods are now out due to your new picky tummy. I recovered so quick, went back to work without problems and started exercising right away. I know everyones story is a little different but for me, it has allowed me to be on the outside the person I have always been on the inside.

Best of luck in your journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
