BigED 0 Posted August 24, 2006 Jumping through my final hoop I hope What is done for Pulmanary Clearence ?? I'm scheduled to see a Pulmanary specialst It can't be sleep test , I've been on Cpac for 3 years now So what did any of you have to do ?
lighter02 0 Posted August 24, 2006 It most likely will include a PFT which is a pulmonary function test, to see how well you breathe. They usually do it before sx to check if you may be at risk for certain breathing problems while your under anesthesia. My surgeon required one, but i had one about 6 months before, so i skipped mine. Being on Cpac for 3 yrs Im sure you may have had one before??? Hope this helps and if your still not sure about the test let me know and i can give you more info.
GE Mom 0 Posted August 24, 2006 I had to do a pulmonary function test and a sleep study which resulted in a diagnosis of sleep apnea and a CPAP. What a shock! I did have problems with maintaining my oxygen levels the night of surgery because every time I went to sleep the darned oximeter alarm went off, waking me up. That never happened with previous surgeries...So it was good I had all those tests.

j.s. 0 Posted August 25, 2006 I had to do pulmonary function tests too, but because I was a smoker. I flunked the tests and had to make another appt. to see a pulmonologist. Since it took like a month between appts. I was able to get on the patch and quit smoking so when I went to see the pulmonologist, she gave me a clean bill of health for surgery. It just ended up pushing my surgery back a bit but you do what you have to do.
BigED 0 Posted August 25, 2006 Well when I got there today , none of my breathing test from the certified WLS were on hand . Pulamnoligist asked if i had every had a breating test and I said yes 3 months ago at WLS then he fumbled around and wondered why they had not sent it They are all tied into the same hospital and looked like everyone had to get a piece of the pie So I redid my breathing test and passed with flying colors again, redid my blood oxygen test and was told it was beautiful for the 2nd time  Then they did a chest x-ray A wasted day of redoing what had already been done But if it gets my surgery IT'S all GOOD
