I had my surgery may 10th with dr. Ponce de leon in Mexico. My whole cost flight and everything included was $6000 he has a lot of experience, more than most USA Doctors and even Mexican ones. I hope you get the loan you need, but keep in mind that if they don't give it to you finding another $2000 is better than $10000. My pcp does my blood testing and check ups, but I have not had any complications. My full journey is on YouTube including my surgery from inside and out if you are interested in watching it. Good luck!

Another thing you might consider is talking to the surgeon. As long as you have he finances together to pay for everything except his fee, he may be willing to carry an in house note for the remainder of his fee.

I did leave them an email and am going to see what tomorrow brings. But what exactly does this mean? A in house note?

It means that in essence you would sign a promissory note for the balance of what the surgury cost is and make direct payments to him.

Say the total cost of the surgery is 15,000 and his portion of that(his fee) is 6000. Then the rest of it is supplies, OR fees, anesthesia cost, etc.

If you can come up with 12,500 (7500 loan & 5000 cash) that pays for everything except part of his fee. It is not unheard of in this scenario for the surgeon to go ahead and do the surgery and accept payments over the next 6-12 months for the balance. This is not common practice but it has been done many times.

Generally you will need to be able to cover all costs and at least 1/2 of his fee for him to consider it.

Ask the surgeon what his private pay cost is. The surgeon could have a different price for self pay clients. ;)

The hospital costs, anesthesia, BLIS etc are $10,000 and the surgeon and whatever fees are $7,000. I am wondering if maybe they will do that note thing.

We can put in $5000 my fiancée told me last night so I need the lender to loan me at least $13,000. He doesn't want me to even consider Mexico. :/ He says we'll figure this out so I can do this here.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
