Feeling Like You Need To Burp Everytime You Eat

Recommended Posts

No matter what I eat, while I am trying to eat and afterwards I have a feeling like I need to burp and I also have a weird feeling in my throat that I can't explain. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and only eating the approved mushie foods. It's very aggravating and it makes me want to stop eating after only a few bites. Does this happen to anyone else? This happens no matter how fast or slow I am eating and I am not drinking before during or after eating either.

I burp and hiccup all the time from almost everything I eat. It's pretty embarrassing... I have a desk job at a social service agency and my boss (who knows I had the surgery) said I was being disgusting. I got a doctors note stating that this is completely normal and there is nothing I could do to help it. That shut her up.

So, it is something normal? I was afraid I had messed up somehow. I am so nervous about eating afraid I'll totally mess everything up.

I'm do glad you posted this question!! I have the SAME problem--probably worse!! I burp, gag, and spit constantly. This surgery has turned me into the most repulsive person!!

burping is normal you might try to slow down eating or eat a little less and it will go away and for the other feeling I had it it always left I had a ice cube or something else stuck in my esophagus. It will go away.

My first week I burped every time I ate or drank anything. That sort of has resolved. I still burp occasionally, but mostly when I've hit my "full" point.

I think I burp more when I eat too fast-- and therefore, too much. If it eat really slow, it's not as bad. But i'm definitely a burp machine right now. Hopefully, it will go away with time.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
