Ideas On Stage 2 Foods

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am 12 days post op and on stage 2 foods which is to be soft foods like pudding, strained Soups, Jello, and liguids. I am so bored with these foods does anyone have a good Soup receipe that tastes good? I am at the point I wonder what I have done but know it is only the lack of food at this point. I am trying to keep positive. I have lost 20 pounds and feel it should be more after only liquids. I also am having trouble getting portein powdered drinks down hate the taste and hate milk. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

For the Protein drinks, have you tried nut milks? My nutritionist recommended that I use plain soy or almond milks instead of cow's milk. She said that the lactose in the cow's milk is a sugar, and if I can avoid it in my milk, then that much better! Even though they are yummy, while you're healing, steer clear of the flavored soy or almond milk, they do have a little bit of added sugar. Silk is the brand that I prefer most for both of these, and is relatively easy to find in most grocery stores.

I also was told to get the flavorings that you buy for baking to add to my shakes or puddings. Add a couple of drops of vanilla, rum, almond, orange, etc... to help the taste or just for variety. My nutritionist suggested also getting the super soft tofu to blender in to shakes and pudding to hide Protein that way.

I'm not where you are yet, so I'll be watching this thread! My surgery is 6/27! I'm in that excited/nervous place now.

Thanks so much I will try these ideas. I am mentally drained this week. I can not wait until I can have just a taste of real food. :)

Cream of wheat has been a staple on my 3 weeks of Stage 2. I also make my own concotions and puree it really well. Although it looks bad it tastes so good.

I made a pot of green Beans with smoked turkey and pureed with chicken broth. Also sweet potatoes and mashed potatoes but don't eat them thick make sure they are soupy. U can use cinnamon and splenda brown sugar. I'm allowed to use I can't Believe It's Not Butter and that has been a lifesaver too.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
