What To Do While Waiting On Approval?

Recommended Posts

Is there a thread for this? I did a search and didn't find anything. What are some good things to do while you're waiting on approval from the insurance company? What have some of you done? Right now I'm trying to practice the whole "no drinking while you eat" rule and to eat my Protein first. Any other ideas? I KNOW I'm going to be approved, it's just a matter of how long it takes!

Thanks everyone!

For me, the first thing that I did was give up soda which was a huge addiction for me. Besides that I have really focused on trying to learn as much as possible about the surgery from the blogs on this site. Making new friends that will help support you, learning and understanding how you will likely feel after surgery and going into it having a ton of knowledge I feel will help a ton post op.

I'm with Gene on this one, start weaning yourself off your bad habits, soda , candy etc. I also started walking every night so I would be in a little better shape before surgery. I also read up on everything I could find about the surgery, read forums like this which were a godsend for me. Good luck!

I'm in waiting mode as well. I've started making changes to my eating habits and portions hoping it will help with the two week Clear Liquids pre-op and, to help me be in better shape for surgery. I've replaced my lunch with a Protein Shake each day and want to work my way up to replacing one more meal with a shake before the pre-surgery diet. I am trying to put major mental effort into this now with the hope I will be better able to manage afterwards...and keep trying to help myself if I don't end up getting approved as I'm very worried about.

You mean other than drive yourself nuts? LOL Oh, that's just me?

I've been drinking Water 90% of the time (a few weak moments here and there) but I am having the darndest time with the no eating and drinking thing. Rather, I'm ok not drinking while I eat, but I want to guzzle my cup of Water immediately afterwards.

I'm also trying to up my exercise, but I'm struggling with that a bit with my schedule.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
