Heartbreaking story this morning on the Today Show about David Smith. 3 years ago he was all over the TV because of losing over 400 pounds. This morning on the Today show he revealed weight re-gain of over 300 pounds. So sad and scary. He talks about needing to have an strong emotional and mental foundation to sustain weight loss and how he was not able to cope with the extreme changes he went through. We can all relate to that. Thank God we have a tool in place to help us be successful.

this breaks my heart too..... :-( this is the reason I did something drastic and had a vsg to help decrease the chance of this happening....

The concept of really being READY for such a dramatic weight loss and way of life is critical! I watched my sister go through WLS and 3 years later hasn't made significant progress. She's back to her pre-surgery justifications for eating and lack of exercise. And now, while I know she loves me and supports me, is jealous of my success- which is furthing her self-sabotaging behavior. So I love and understand when David's girlfriend says, "this is the moment I've been waiting for." in the meantime I'm standing by my sister, but I can't wait for the moment that she's really ready!
