Decided To Get Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone, I am new to the community and just want give a shout out to everyone. I have decided to move forward as a self pay for the procedure as my BMI 31 does not fall under coverage. At first I was sticker shocked when quoted $17000 here in Hawaii with Dr Criangle....am I dillusional or is this a standard price for SP? Regardless for me I think over all, the long term, healh wise, self confidence etc will offset the price for me...thoughts anyone

I know things cost more in Hawaii but Wow! I'm a Self pay in Mexico $5900.00 with dr. verboonen. If your happy with your choice of Doctors, and you can afford it, go for it! In the long run you'll be glad you did.

Aloha Kaiwa from Seattle, WA. Local boy been here for 30+ years. Congratulations on your choice to do weight loss surgery. I decided several months ago to pursue that course as I was fearful of the consequences of not doing anything to help myself.

Having grown up (in Maui) in the islands, you know the kind of diet we have. Even after moving to the mainland I continued my local-style eating and my health has paid dearly. It's not only the diet as there are family genes that make me prone to certain diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc).

As far as the cost you've been quoted, I find it rather reasonable as here in WA I'm hearing that the surgery can be as high as $30,000.00+ (surgeon, hospital, nutritionist,etc.).

Good luck on your journey and if you need anyone to walau with, give me a shout.

Aloha.

Many doctors charge te insurance companies $45,000 - $60,000, but they have special rates for self-pay patients. I'm in Austin, TX, and ended up paying $15,100 for self-pay. Mexico is cheaper, but I wanted a local surgeon in case of problems & because of easier followup care.

I believe you are correct about the differences between what a doctor would actually charge vs insurance companies. No wonder our insurance rates are so high!

I, like you, would prefer to get my weight loss surgery done in the good 'ol USA mainly due to what you stated. If there are complications I'd prefer to have my physician close at hand. Not to say the the doctors in Mexico aren't good at what they do. I've read raving reports/blogs about them.

Going in for my ABG blood tests & endoscopy tomorrow morning. Wish me luck.

I was self pay and mine was 4,000 for surgeon. 11,000 for hospital and 900 for Anes. So it was a big chunk of money but hope it pays off for me.

Mine didn't give me any sort of breakdown of costs. I just paid it all to the doctor & he divides it up where it needs to go, so I don't know how much is for each thing. I do know it was going to be about $600 extra if I had to stay in the hospital an extra night. I actually got mine financed, so because of finance charges & fees, I'll end up paying almost $25,000 over the next 4 years unless we can pay it off ahead of time. However, for me it was worth it & worth the peace of mind. I know some people are fine going to Mexico & they get aftercare here if needed, but I didn't want to do that & it wasn't really an option because of my family situation & other things right now anyway. I had surgery just after Mother's Day & my husband joked & said he's never buying me a $15,000 Mother's Day present again! :-) I said this wasn't really for Mother's Day, but it is the best money I've ever spent on myself to benefit the rest of my life!

Anyone that's able to pay for themselves, I give you accolades. For me, being retired, my income is fixed and I only wish I could self-pay, but the reality is I can't afford. So, in going forward with what's available for me (Medicare/Aetna), I'll continue my journey towards my surgery. Tomorrow is my endoscopy & ABG blood tests. Wish me luck.

I was a self pay with Dr. Cirangle recently. In California it cost me $18,500. Dr. Cirangle is probably the best sleeve surgeon in the nation and If you can afford it I think that he is worth every penny. I had zero complications, no nausea, and I sure appreciated his experience, attention to detail, and concern for his patients. He really goes the extra mile for his patients.

My costs are 2400 - surgeon, 1400 - anesthesiologist - 17000 hospital.. I offered to let them use my kitchen table and setup a mobile OR lol ... but yeah that was a no-go. Could've saved 17 grand.
